Election Day Dress Down Day: Dress Down for elections and donate $1 for Catholic charities. Dress in red-white-and-blue! The $1 contribution that will go to Catholic Legal Services in support of their Hurricane Matthew relief efforts.
Hurricane Relief: One of our third grade students, Nami Chung Vastine, is helping us with the Hurricane Matthew Relief. Please see Nami’s message to her classmates. “Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. In 2010, Haiti was hit by a devastating earthquake that killed more than 100,000 people. Afterwards, thousands more have died from cholera. Last month, Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Nicole hit Haiti and now thousands of people need our help more than ever. With Catholic Legal Services, Carrollton Montessori & Primary School will be helping our Haitian neighbors. We are asking that each grade please donate supplies from now until Thanksgiving as follows: M3: Shampoo, M4: Soap and M5: Toothpaste. Families can also donate new and used clothing and flat shoes for men, women, and children. Thank you for caring for our friends in Haiti and helping people in need. Thank you “
Women in Tech Event - Amy Renshaw, executive director of Code Art, is hosting a Women in Tech event in Meli's Hall (Duchesne Campus) on Monday, November 7 from 6-8pm. The event is open to Carrollton families. Panel will include Fariba Amirpour, IT Project & Program Management at Burger King, Allison Cammack, Client Partner at Kairos, Sofia Garcia, Director of Education at Code Art Miami, and May Huneidi, CIO at Global Eagle Entertainment. We will explore some of the reasons behind this phenomenon in a panel discussion with four local women with computer science backgrounds. The panel will be moderated by Amy Austin Renshaw. Renshaw is the co-founder of CodeArt, a local organization that uses art to inspire girls to code. Information about CodeArt’s upcoming coding competition will also be available at the event.
Montessori Parent Evening: on Thursday, November 10 at 7 pm all Montessori Parents are invited to a Montessori Parent Evening. The teachers will have a presentation for parents on the daily life of the Montessori school showing lessons from all the different academic areas of the Montessori curriculum.
After School News: Sign up today for the After School Program Parent and Me Workshops through December. A few spaces remain for the Parent and Me Yoga for Montessori and Primary families for tomorrow, November 1st. Classes include Jazz, Art in Spanish, Cooking, etc. Registration is open and available on line through the Parent Portal, Fall 2016 After School Registration. For more information, please contact the After School Office at extension 2341.
Gesu Thanksgiving Collection: Every year the Montessori & Primary communities help Gesu Catholic Church in Downtown Miami with a Thanksgiving Food Drive. They look forward to our generosity each year. This year we will continue that tradition by collecting food items, please see the assigned list below. Please bring your donations by Friday, November 18. Mrs. Caicedo’s Homeroom: rice, Ms. Johann’s Homeroom: beans, and Mrs. Trujillo’s Homeroom: canned vegetables.
Grandparents Day: We are excited to welcome our grandparents again to Carrollton this year to Grandparents Day, please click on the link to RSVP. The event will be on Tuesday, November 22 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Please note students may NOT go home with their grandparents after the activity. It is a full day of school with regular dismissal.
