The Crowne Plaza® Charlotte Executive Park has completed a $10 million, year-long renovation that puts the hotel at the forefront of a brand renewal by Crowne Plaza parent company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). The hotel is located at 5700 Westpark Drive, off Tyvola Road near the intersection of I-77.
“This is a remarkable, comprehensive transformation of a 30-year old property,” said Crowne Plaza Charlotte General Manger Bill Bennett. “We completely renovated our 300 guest rooms and suites as well as 16,000 square feet of flexible meeting space; opened the public spaces into a seamless lobby and restaurant/bar area that encourages socialization and relaxation; and updated our health and leisure options including the fitness center, heated indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, whirlpool, volleyball court, and large sundeck and outdoor pavilion with dual fire pits.

Executive Chef Michael Cowan oversees the hotel’s revamped restaurant, Food For Thought, focusing on farm-to-table and locally sourced ingredients with a Southern twist to ensure the freshest and highest quality ingredients in every dish. Cowan’s experience includes the Omni San Francisco and the Boathouse II restaurant in Hilton Head, SC.
Atlanta architectural and interior design firm DesignONE Studio reimagined the 18-story, 228,000-square-foot property in a neutral palette enhanced with a bit of sparkle, utilizing natural materials of stone and reclaimed wood, metal accents, and inviting seating areas throughout the sweeping lobby and restaurant/bar. Multiple televisions and complimentary, high bandwidth WiFi offer accommodating connectivity in the common areas.
The reinvigorated property particularly resonates with “strivers,” individuals who are highly motivated and work in a fast-paced environment, but also desire a hotel environment in which to transition from work to leisure to socialization, all in the same area.

We currently have about 140 employees and expect to grow that number in the coming year,” Bennett concluded.
The Crowne Plaza Charlotte Executive Park is owned by Marathon Asset Management of New York, which purchased the former Marriott property in November 2012. In June 2013, Marathon retained Atlanta-based Valor Hospitality Partners to manage the property and oversee the renovation and subsequently reflagged the hotel as a Crowne Plaza.
