Sea food is obviously the order of the day in Eastern Algarve, but that is certainly not the only fare to be had here in this particular vicinity. A number of of the finest steaks can be purchased in the many excellent eating places along the shores, a number of them with Michelin star scores. For the Brits not so far from home, it's a possibility to find a full Sunday lunch along with pretty much all the trimmings for only 10 (ten) euros, which is pretty good going. Practically nothing like a round of golf at an Algarve resort before settling down to Sunday dinner with red wine and dessert - it's what life is for out here in paradise.

The main motorway is the A22, which stretches all the way across the Algarve, branching off near Faro to Lisbon or to Spain, which is really close to Faro. The old coastal road is called the N125, which is still used commonly as a result of motorway tolls. The motorway is excellent for getting locations quickly, because not that many Portuguese use it. There are not any toll booths, but of course all the Algarve golf course exits are clearly marked. The tolls are paid in May with taxes, which is reached by logging vehicle passage using the number plates.

The Algarve region is perhaps the most established travel zone in the whole of Europe and the amount of tourists visiting to the Algarve is developing constantly and annually. Paris still retains the record for the most traveled to metropolitan area for tourists, but this region of Portugal must be catching up rapidly, which might primarily be due to the golf packages Algarve on offer by many of the hotels. It isn't only the golf resorts that bring in people though. There are a lot of good things about the region it's challenging to know where to kick off.

List of golf courses in Portugal

The Algarve villages might sound a tiny bit sleepy, particularly if you go through in the course of a hot summer day when rational people hide from the searing heat - everyone that is except the tourists! Golf holidays are pretty widespread in the area and it's just not possible to play in the August hot temperatures, so why not explore a tiny bit? You will discover the local people tremendously pleasant and very helpful, even if you might be just asking directions. Some of the taverns and cafes look a tiny bit intimidating but as a matter of fact they are remarkably welcoming. You can expect to be knocked out by the wide-open curiosity and affection emanating from every body you come across.

The main airport for the Algarve is in Faro, which is also the regional capital. With a population of approximately 30 000 it's hardly a metropolis, but everything you could possibly need will be found there. Further along the coast are the cities of Albufeira, Portimao, Lago and right at the tip of the Algarve, Sagres. Each town has golf resorts all around, and thus the enthusiastic tourist is really spoiled for choice. Golden sands are always a characteristic of these great beachfront towns, and in the Algarve they're just gorgeous, complete with wonderful rock formations and cafes.
