Isuzu sees every driver and every business as unique, but what does that have to do with a bakkie? To find out the firm took a look at its comprehensive KB range to see whether it can deliver on the firm’s promise to create the perfect deal for every real?

Speaking with brand manager Mlungisi Nonkonyana it’s apparent that ‘whatever your real, we’ll build the perfect deal’ isn’t just a statement, but lies very much at the heart of Isuzu’s KB offerings.

As he explains, “In the context of our South African society, a bakkie is so much more than a vehicle; it’s a partner in your business and for many South Africans that means a variety of different things.

From small operations, to medium and large businesses; the painters, plumbers, mechanics and engineers, bakers, florists, the construction industry and the caterers that feed them. Each one faces unique and important challenges.

Isuzu is renowned for building some of the most durable bakkies, and the KB’s reputation for ruggedness and reliability is often held in high regard. What separates Isuzu from other manufacturers is its understanding that each bakkie serves a different need; for example a gardening service might need the optional tow bar, while a florist might see a canopy as crucial to its daily operations.

Instead of trying to provide a blanket solution for a massive market with vastly different requirements, Isuzu aims to create an alternative where the client can choose what they really need. By allowing customers to decide what their real needs are, be it trade-in assistance, an extended warranty or finance assistance, Isuzu strives to create the perfect deal to suit individual needs.”

Looking at the Double and Extended Cab, in particular the KB 250 Hi-Rider 4x2, the Isuzu claims that its specifications are likely to pique the interest of many bakkie enthusiasts. The 2,5-litre turbodiesel develops 100 kW at 3 600 r/min and 320 N.m of torque between 1 800 and 2 800 r/min, while returning a claimed fuel economy of 7,7 L/100 km on a combined cycle.

Among the double cab’s standard safety features are electronic stability control, traction control, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, dual airbags and Isofix child seat anchorage points for double cab. While on the comfort and entertainment front, the features such as air-conditioning, power steering, and an audio and communications suite that incorporates a CD player, Bluetooth with audio streaming, as well as USB and iPod connectivity, are among the standard fitment items.

The workhorse of Isuzu’s bakkie range, the KB 250 Single Cab, features a 2,5-litre turbodiesel that delivers 58 kW/3 800 r/min and 170 N.m of torque at 1 800 r/min. According to Isuzu, this model’s 7,9 L/100 km fuel consumption makes it a class leader in terms of Total Cost of Operation, and epitomises the firm’s rugged, get-things-done attitude.

In addition, every Isuzu KB is backed by the comprehensive Isuzu Complete Care plan that includes 5-year/120 000 km warranty and roadside assistance and a 5-year/90 000 km service plan.

‘Whatever your real, we’ll build the perfect deal’ is not just a statement, claims Isuzu – it’s a promise.
