Interior Health is seeking a new team member at Royal Inland Hospital. This acute care position serves the adult population in assessment and treatment of dysphagia and communication disorders; it is an inpatient and outpatient neurogenic population.
Royal Inland Hospital (215 acute care beds) offers high-level, speciality medical care including core physician specialties, 24 emergency and trauma services, ambulatory and outpatient clinics, and diagnostic services. Speech-Language Pathology Services focus primarily on adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders. The Speech-Language Pathology Department consists of one full time and one part time staff.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assesses communication including: screening, identification, evaluation, and diagnosis. Evaluate speech and language test results and medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for speech and language disorders.
• Develops and implements client-centered treatment plans for communication disorders.
• Evaluates and documents the effectiveness of interventions.
• Creates environments that promote optimal communication and swallowing for clients and/or their caregivers.
• Develops and implements therapy programs.
• Assesses, selects, and develops augmentative and alternative communication systems and devices for individuals who are limited in their ability to communicate verbally, and provides education and training in their use.
• Acts as a speech-language pathology resource for other members of the health care team.
• Attends, contributes to and participates in multi-disciplinary rounds, conferences, lectures, in-service programs and meetings, as required.
