Job Description::

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Completion of an accredited surgical technologist training program.

Experience:

Three years experience as a surgical technologist, preferably in an out-patient setting.

Knowledge, Skills

& Abilities:

Knowledge of aseptic technique.

Knowledge of sterilization techniques.

Knowledge of surgical instruments procedures and related supplies.

Knowledge of patient legal rights.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and microbiology.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.

Current CPR certification

Licensure/Registration/ Certification:

Must be certified or eligible to take the certifying examination offered by the National Association of Surgical Technologists.

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The care team member specifically involved with preparation of supplies, equipment and instruments for surgery; to provide and maintain a sterile field; to assist the surgical staff with technical aspects during surgery; care for equipment and medical supplies following surgery; and performs other duties as assigned. The above staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skill and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
