JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research) has very recently issued MBBS entrance exam notification for its July 2013 batch. As per the notification, last date to submit the online form for JIPMER MBBS Entrance Exam 2013 is 4th May, 2013 and the exam would be held on 2nd June, 2013.

This blog post has been made to touch upon the important information contained in above JIPMER notification, specially on application form and eligibility to help you apply for the same. A separate article titled: JIPMER MBBS exam Pattern, Papers & Books would help you prepare for the exam by providing you the prep materials.

What is JIPMER?
Located in Puducherry, JIPMER traces its origin to 1823 when a medical school called Ecole de Medicine de Pondichery was established by the French. In November 1956, the Government of India took over the medical college and upgraded the same as a regional centre and renamed it JIPMER on July 13, 1964. It now has about 3,000 students, 300 experienced teachers and 565 resident doctors.
JIPMER is one of the best medical colleges in India and has been ranked within the top five for many years in a row – in India Today Best 25 Medical colleges ranking - 2012, it ranks 3rd – next only to AIIMS Delhi & CMC Vellore. Its previous years rankings were as below:

Number of seats in JIPMER MBBS 2013:
There are a total of 141 seats with break-up as below:
All India: General: 51; OBC: 27; SC:15;ST:8; (Total: 101)
Puducherry: General: UR: 23; OBC: 11; SC:6;ST:Nil; (Total: 40)
In addition to above, 4 seats are ear marked for the Central Pool Scheme by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
Why should you appear in JIPMER MBBS:
JIPMER MBBS Entrance exam is very very competitive, because a large number of students appears in this exam for very few seats. Only the brilliants can crack this exam (if you are an average student, naturally you should be lucky to get a JIPMER seat!).
But even than you should appear in this exam, as preparation for this exam would enable you to appear in the other prestigious entrance exams like that of AIIMS MBBS & NEET-UG. Why? Because the pattern of exams in the medical college entrance exams are very similar.
Also the dates of these three exams does not clashes. For example, for the year 2013, dates of NEET, AIIMS & JIPMER are as follows:
NEET-UG 2013: 5th May, 2013 (Sunday)
AIIMS MBBS-2013: 1st June, 2013 (Saturday).
JIPMER-2013: 2nd June, 2013 (Sunday).
JIPMER MBBS 2013 Important dates:
Date of exam notification: 25-03-2013.
Last Date of JIPMER MBBS 2013 application Form: 04-05-2013.
Date for downloading JIPMER 2013 hall ticket: 15-05-2013.
Date of JIPMER MBBS 2013 exam: 02-06-2013.
Date of JIPMER MBBS 2013 result: 09-06-2013.
JIPMER MBBS Eligibility:
Age Eligibility: ( as on 31st December 2013).
Min: 17 years (DOB on or before 01-01-1997)
Academic Eligibility:
Minimum 50% (40% for SC/ST/OBC) aggregate in Class-XII with subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Botany & Zoology and English.
Students appearing in Class-XII final in March/April 2013 can also apply.
JIPMER MBBS 2013 Exam Centres:
JIPMER MBBS Entrance Exam 2013 would be held in following 14 city/town all over India:

3) Chandigarh
4) Chennai
5) Coimbatore
6) Guwahati
7) Jaipur
8) Kolkata
9) New Delhi
10) Puducherry
11) Pune
12) Thiruvananthapuram
13) Trichy
14) Vijayawada
There are only 5000 seats in each of above JIPMER Exam Centres, except Puducherry. This is the reason why you should try to submit your online form as soon as possible - as otherwise you may have to opt for the nearby exam centre if number of applicant exceeds 5000.
JIPMER MBBS 2013 application forms:
You can apply for JIPMER MBBS 2013 exam only through Online Form. There is no Offline application form. The JIPMER Exam Application fee is Rs.1000/- for General / OBC candidates & Rs.800/- for (SC / ST Category: Rs.800/-). This fee has to be paid in any SBI branch. You have to take print-out of the compute generated challan (after your register online as given in page-38 of the notification) to pay the JIPMER Exam Application fee.

JIPMER MBBS 2013 Hall Ticket:
You have to download JIPMER MBBS 2013 exam hall-ticket from this website from 15th May onward.No hard copy of the hall-ticket/admit card would be sent to you.
