“I’ve got nothing to wear!”, is a phrase we’re all guilty of saying every now and then when we look into our beloved closet, but with some savvy styling there’s no need to say this ever again. As summer draws to a close and with fall on the horizon, you could be feeling like your wardrobe is in serious need of a revamp. You may not have the budget to hit the shops and splurge on the latest trends, but fear not as here at CGD, we’ve narrowed it down to a select few wardrobe classics, like the staple LBD or slouchy white tee, which will take you through this season and many more to come.

1.  A Classic Trenchcoat

Perhaps one of the most iconic of coats, a classic trench coat, is a timeless staple in any girl’s wardrobe and can be worn in a variety of ways to give you a selection of the season’s trendiest looks. Dress it down with a pair of ripped skinny jeans, a slouchy tee and some slip on sneakers or dress it up with an elegant mini dress and a classic pair of court heels. And, who makes a more iconic trench coat than the luxury British fashion house, Burberry. Coats come in a variety of colours and styles, but this Mid Length Stone number is a firm favourite.

2. A Pair Of Skinny Jeans

Every girl needs a pair. Classic skinny jeans are a must-have staple in your wardrobe. Wear it with a denim jacket and a slouchy tee for an off-duty vibe or smarten them up with a sheer blouse and a pair of black courts. A dark wash denim pair is one of the most flattering, like this Rag & Bone skinny-mid rise stretch pair. For a twist on the classic skinny jeans, these Madewell coated skinny jeans are the perfect option.

If you need an injection of print into your wardrobe, then look no further than a dainty boho dress. Pair this dress with gladiator sandals, and a fringed handbag for the ultimate off-duty festival look, or dress it up with a tailored blazer and a pair of court heels. Try this daisy print overlay dress from Topshop, and wear with leather ankle boots for a 70s take on the ultimate boho vibe. Or pair this paisley cotton and silk mini dress from Talitha with an edgy leather jacket for a punk vibe.

4. The Nautical Jumper

There’s a reason every time you step foot in Paris, one of the fashion capitals of the world, a super stylish Parisian in a striped T-shirt is not far from your eyesight. Stripes simply go with everything, making it a great piece to have in your wardrobe. This T-shirt looks as good dressed up with a leather pencil skirt or capri pants, as it does dressed down with slouchy denim and classic sneakers. Mix this cool Comme Des Garcons stiped tee or classic Alexander McQueen navy striped jumper with block colours, florals, denim, leather or other striped pieces.

5. The Leather Jacket

A leather jacket is one piece that will see you through all four seasons, whether it’s layered over a soft cashmere jumper in the colder months or draped over a casual tee and denim shorts during the summer time. For a failsafe going out look, wear your leather jacket slung over a party mini dress. It is a jacket that has become renowned for its ability to toughen up girly summer dresses, and dress down smarter outfits whilst giving any outfit an added injection of style. It’s worth opting for a classic biker style, like this Saint Laurent leather biker jacket, that you’ll still love in years to come.

6.  The White Tee

Nothing screams versatility as much as a white tee, so make sure you have this staple in your wardrobe and you’ll never be short of outfit ideas. Whether you layer this perfect T-shirt under a jumper, tucked into a skirt or hanging loose with a pair of denim shorts, nothing says effortless style quite as well as this trusty staple. J Crew and Alexander Wang make some of the best casual tees, with the softest feeling cotton.

7. The Sharp Blazer

Ever looked in the mirror before heading to work, and thought you needed an extra something to make that office look truly work? Look no further than a sharp, well tailored blazer. It’s a great alternative to a coat in the warmer months, whilst looking incredibly chic and sophisticated at the same time. Wear this blazer with a pair of tailored cigarette pants and a smart oxford shirt for work, to tone down a bright cocktail dress at night or finally, slung over an oversized tee and a pair of boyfriend jeans for a casual daytime look. The clash between the tailored piece and relaxed denim, make this outfit even more stylish. Amanda Wakeley nails style with this Autumn/Winter classic tuxedo jacket, complete with glossy satin trims.

8. The Oversized Sunnies

A pair of oversized sunglasses are the perfect accessory for finishing off your outfit with an added injection of edge. Worn by the likes of Olivia Palermo, Cara Delevingne and Kim Kardashian, they are essential on minimal makeup days to pull your look together. These oversized tortoiseshell sunnies from Gucci are perfect for those long, summer nights, or you can embrace the mirrored sunnies trend with these classic RayBan aviator shades.

9. The Ballet Flats

There’s a reason ballet flats have been in season for decades, with celebrity fans including, Audrey Hepburn and Alexa Chung, whilst Brit actress Keira Knightley, even opted to wear a pair on her low-key Parisian wedding day to rocker beau, James Righton. They’re as stylish as they are comfortable, making them an ideal choice for a long day in the office, or casual drinks at your local bar. You can wear them with a classic pair of black skinny jeans and a smart shirt, and transition into night by switching the shirt for a more glamorous sequined skirt. Chose a timeless pair that will work with the majority of your wardrobe, like these nude quilted Steve Madden flats.

10. The Little Black Dress

Nothing is more open to accessorising and styling quite like a LBD, meaning you can create so many different looks, just by adding accessories to this blank canvas. Worn by itself the look says simple elegance and style, and accessorised with an oversized denim shirt unbuttoned and a pair of slip on sneakers or ballet flats, the look says off-duty chic. Transform the dress from day to night by ditching the layering; pair the dress with sky high heels, a studded clutch bag and a bold red lip for instant nighttime glamour. This Alice + Olivia jacquard black dress with a cut out back is a firm favourite, or for a more daytime piece, try this James Perse stretch-cotton jersey dress.
