India’s IT major Infosys appointed Board member R. Seshasayee Non-Executive Chairman in place of K.V. Kamath, who is set to take over as head of the ‘New Development Bank’ (NDB) of the BRICS group in July and resigned from the post with immediate effect.

The NFSM was launched in October 2007 and it envisages additional production of 25 million tonnes of food grains during 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17).
वरिष्ठ आईएएस अधिकारी नरेंद्र भूषण ने राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा मिशन (एनएफएसएम) के मिशन निदेशक के रूप में पदभार संभाला। भूषण वर्ष 1992 के उत्तर प्रदेश कैडर के आईएएस अधिकारी हैं, वे कृषि सहयोग विभाग में संयुक्त सचिव के पद पर कार्यरत हैं। वे इस पद पर 10 जुलाई 2016 तक बने रहेंगे। एनएफएसएम की शुरुआत अक्टूबर 2007 में हुई थी। इसने 12वीं पंचवर्षीय योजना (2012-17) के दौरान 25 मिलियन टन अतिरिक्त खाद्यान्न उत्पादन की परिकल्पना प्रस्तुत की है।
Noted footballer and Arjuna awardee C. Prasad passed away in Delhi following an ailment. Prasad had received the Arjuna award in 1971. He was 70 years old.

India and Belarus inked six agreements, including a Roadmap for India-Belarus Cooperation as President Pranab Mukherjee held talks with Belarusian counterpart Alexander V. Lukashenko. Besides the roadmap, the agreements include a protocol amending the agreement between the two sides for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion. A MoU was inked between Bureau of Indian Standards and Belarus’ State Committee for Standardization on cooperation in the field of standardization and information support, and another MoU between Prasar Bharati and the National State Television and Radio Company of Belarus (Belteleradiocompany) for cooperation on broadcasting. Both sides also inked a MoU on cooperation between the Securities and Exchange Board of India and Belurusian ministry of finance and a MoU between India’s textiles ministry and the Belarusian State Concern for Manufacturing and Marketing of Light Industry Goods ‘Bellegprom’.
राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी ने अपनी बेलारूस यात्रा में बेलारूस के राष्ट्रपति अलेक्जेंडर वी. लुकाशेंको से मुलाकात की और इस दौरान दोनों देशों ने छह समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए। इन समझौतों में से एक दोनों देशों के बीच सहयोग बढ़ाने की कार्ययोजना है। इसके अलावा दोहरे कराधान और वित्तीय चोरी निवारण समझौते में संशोधन के एक प्रोटोकॉल पर भी हस्ताक्षर हुए। भारतीय मानक ब्यूरो और बेलारूस के स्टेट कमिटी फॉर स्टैंडर्डाइजेशन ऑन कोऑपरेशन के बीच मानकीकरण और सूचना सहयोग के एक सहमतिपत्र पर हस्ताक्षर हुए। प्रसार भारती और बेलारूस की राष्ट्रीय राज्य टेलीविजन और रेडियो कंपनी (बेल्टेलेरेडियो कंपनी) ने प्रसारण में सहयोग के लिए एक सहमति पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर किए। दोनों देशों ने भारतीय प्रतिभूति एवं विनिमय बोर्ड और बेलारूस के वित्त मंत्रालय के बीच सहयोग तथा भारत के कपड़ा मंत्रालय और बेलारूस के प्रकाश उद्योग के उत्पादों के विनिर्माण और विपणन से संबंधित इकाई बेलेगप्रॉम ने भी एक सहमति पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर किए।
Bangladesh is set to honour former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his outstanding support for the country’s independence from Pakistan in 1971 when he was a Lok Sabha member. Bangladesh will hand over Vajpayee’s “Friends of Bangladesh Liberation War Award” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to the country from 6 June. Vajpayee, who is unwell, could not visit Bangladesh to receive the honour.
बांग्लादेश सन् 1971 में उसे पाकिस्तान से मुक्त कराने में भारत के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के अतुलनीय योगदान के लिए उन्हें सम्मानित करेगा। उस समय वाजपेयी लोकसभा सदस्य थे। भारत के प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी जब 6 जून को बांग्लादेश की यात्रा पर आएंगे तब उन्हें वाजपेयी का ‘फ्रेंड्स ऑफ बांग्लादेश लिबरेशन वार अवॉर्ड’ सौंपा जाएगा। वाजपेयी अस्वस्थ होने के कारण यह सम्मान प्राप्त करने के लिए बांग्लादेश नहीं आ सकते।
Service tax hike to 14% has become effective from 1st June 2015. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Budget had proposed to raise service tax from 12.36 percent (including education cess) to 14 percent. The proposal takes effect from June 1.The tax is levied on all services, expect a small negative list. Some of the key services that will attract higher tax and hence become costlier are: railways, airlines, banking, insurance, advertising, architecture, construction, credit cards, event managemen, Mobile phones and tour operators.
सर्विस टैक्स (सेवा कर) में 14% बढ़ोतरी 1 जून 2015 से प्रभावी हो गयी है। वित्त मंत्री अरुण जेटली ने बजट में सर्विस टैक्स को 12.36 प्रतिशत से बढ़ाकर 14 प्रतिशत करने का प्रस्ताव किया था जो 1 जून से लागू हो गया है। जिन कुछ अहम सेवाओं पर अधिक सर्विस टैक्स लगेगा उनमें शामिल हैं, रेलवे, एयरलाइंस, बैंकिंग, बीमा, विज्ञापन, आर्किटेक्चर, कंस्ट्रक्शन, क्रेडिट कार्ड, प्रोग्राम मैनेजमेंट, मोबाईल फोन और टूर ऑपरेटर सेवाएं।
The Indian economy grew at 7.3% in 2014-15 due to improvement in the performance of both services as well as manufacturing sectors. However, the growth in 2014-15 was lower than the advance estimates of 7.4%. According to the data released by Central Statistics Office (CSO) the economic growth was 6.9% in 2013-14 as per the new series of national accounts with base year of 2011-12.

Singapore has appointed an Indian- origin businessman as its non-Resident High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. S. Chandra Das served as Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, resident in Singapore, from 2006 to 2015. He had also previously served as Singapore’s Trade Representative from 1970 to 1972 in the USSR, the former Soviet Union.

The Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) in partnership with HealthPhone, Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India and UNICEF, announced the formal launch of the IAP HealthPhone programme, the world’s largest digital mass education programme to tackle the challenge of malnutrition in women and children, at the national-level in India. IAP HealthPhone is a public private partnership initiative that is supported by Vodafone India. It is a unique programme that leverages the increasing penetration of mobile phones in the country to educate over 6 million girls and women between 13 and 35 years of age and their families on better health and nutrition practices by 2018.

Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai will be given the prestigious Lifetime Achievement honour at the upcoming International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony in Kuala Lumpur next month. Ghai, 70, who directed notable films like Kalicharan, Karz, Hero, Ram Lakhan and Taal, will be honoured for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema and nurturing young talents through his media institution Whistling Woods.

Scientists have developed a new drone navigation system that allows these aerial vehicles to navigate without relying on a GPS signal or trained personnel. With the goal of achieving autonomous flight of drones, Jose Martinez Carranza from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) in Mexico, developed a vision and learning system to control and navigate them. Martinez structured an innovative method to estimate the position and orientation of the vehicle, allowing it to recognise its environment, hence to replace the Global Positioning System (GPS) for low-cost sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes and camcorders.
वैज्ञानिकों ने एक ऐसी ड्रोन प्रणाली विकसित की है जिसका संचालन बिना किसी जीपीएस संकेत या किसी प्रशिक्षित व्यक्ति की मदद के बिना किया जा सकेगा। मेक्सिको के नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ एस्ट्रोफिजिक्स, ऑप्टिक्स एंड इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स (आइएनएओई) के जोस मार्टिनेज कारंजा ने बिना किसी मदद के उड़ने वाले इस ड्रोन को नियंत्रित और उसके परिचालन की परिकल्पना की। मार्टिनेज ने एक नयी प्रणाली की संरचना तैयार की है। इस प्रणाली में वाहन की स्थिति और दिशा की जानकारी के लिए ग्लोबल पोजिशनिंग सिस्टम (जीपीएस) से निर्भरता खत्म हो जायेगी। इसके स्थान पर एक्सलरोमीटर, गायरोस्कोप या कैमकार्डर जैसे कम खर्च वाले सेंसरों का प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।

During his Budget Speech while presenting the General Budget 2015-16 in Parliament, the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced that the PPP mode of infrastructure development has to be revisited, and revitalized, in which the major issue involved is rebalancing of risk. In pursuance of this announcement, a Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. Vijay Kelkar, former Finance Secretary and Chairman, National Institute of Public Finance & Policy (NIPFP), New Delhi has been constituted. Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) shall provide secretarial assistance to the Committee. The Committee shall submit its report within a period of three months from the date of its Constitution.
संसद में ‘आम बजट 2015-16′ पेश करने के दौरान अपने बजट भाषण में केन्द्रीय वित्त मंत्री अरुण जेटली ने घोषणा की थी कि बुनियादी ढांचागत विकास के पीपीपी मॉडल पर नये सिरे से विचार किया जायेगा और इसमें नई जान फूंकी जायेगी। इसके तहत प्रमुख मसला जोखिमों को पुनर्संतुलित करना है। इस घोषणा पर अमल करते हुए डॉ. विजय केलकर, पूर्व वित्त सचिव एवं नई दिल्ली स्थित राष्ट्रीय सार्वजनिक वित्त एवं नीति संस्थान (एनआईपीएफपी) के अध्यक्ष, की अध्यक्षता में एक समिति गठित की गई है। ढांचागत विकास वित्त कंपनी (आईडीएफसी) समिति को सचिवीय सहायता मुहैया करायेगी। समिति अपने गठन की तिथि से तीन माह के भीतर अपनी रिपोर्ट पेश कर देगी।

Global money transfer major Western Union has renewed its 14-year-old partnership with India Post, which is now in the race to become a payments bank. After the renewed agreement, nearly 10,000 post offices will continue to serve as Western Union agents. People can continue to receive money sent from other locations through post offices.

एनआरआई अरबपति लक्ष्मी मित्तल के नेतृत्व वाली आर्सेलर मित्तल भारत में 5,000 करोड़ रुपए के निवेश से एक ऑटोमोटिव स्टील प्लांट की स्थापना करेगी। इसके लिए कंपनी ने सरकारी कंपनी स्टील अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया (सेल) के साथ संयुक्त उपक्रम बनाने का समझौता किया है। आर्सेलर मित्तल ने भारत में प्रवेश करने का यह कदम दस साल बाद उठाया है। प्रस्तावित संयुक्त उपक्रम के तहत भारत में स्टेट-ऑफ-दि-आर्ट कोल्ड रोलिंग मिल और अन्य डाउनस्ट्रीम फिनीशिंग सुविधाओं की स्थापना की जाएगी। यह स्टील प्लांट भारत के तेजी से विकसित हो रहे ऑटोमोटिव सेक्टर को तकनीकी रूप से आधुनिक स्टील उत्पादों की आपूर्ति करेगा।
China will be the largest shareholder in the newly floated Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) with a 30.85 per cent stake followed by India and Russia. Based on the AIIB members’ GDP weight in the world economy, China will become the bank’s largest shareholder, followed by India and Russia.

State Bank of India, country’s largest commercial bank, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with e-commerce player Amazon to develop payment and e-commerce solutions for customers and small businesses. The bank is working on ways to enrich customers’ payment experience and opening up the windows of e-commerce to its SME customers through this tie-up.

India has ranked 24th out of 70 countries in the first Environmental Democracy Index that is topped by Lithuania and evaluates nations’ progress in enacting laws to promote transparency, accountability and citizen engagement in environmental decision making. Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, the US, South Africa, the UK, Hungary, Bulgaria, Panama and Colombia are the top 10 nations in the list launched by Washington-based World Resources Institute (WRI) and Access Initiative.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for optimum use of weather information and forecast in the power sector. The aim of MoU is to enable power operators, generators and utilities to make optimum use of their supply and generation capacities with knowledge of weather conditions obtained from IMD.
भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (आईएमडी) ने ऊर्जा क्षेत्र में मौसम की जानकारी तथा पूर्वानुमान के अधिकतम उपयोग के लिए पॉवर सिस्टम ऑपरेशन कार्पोरेशन लिमिटेड के साथ समझौता ज्ञापन (एमओयू) पर हस्ताक्षर किए। समझौता ज्ञापन का उद्देश्य आईएमडी से प्राप्त मौसम की स्थिति की जानकारी के साथ पॉवर ऑपरेटरों, जनरेटरों और यूटिलिटियों को उनकी आपूर्ति और उत्पादन क्षमताओं का अधिकतम उपयोग करने में सक्षम करना है।
South Korea offered to provide $10 billion for infrastructure projects in India, including smart cities railways, power generation and various other sectors as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with President Park Geun-hye and the two countries decided to elevate their ties to a special ‘strategic partnership’. Both sides agreed to increase their defence and security cooperation and also inked seven agreements, including on avoidance of double taxation and for cooperation between their National Security Councils.
दक्षिण कोरिया ने भारत को बुनियादी ढांचा विकास, स्मार्ट शहरों के विकास, रेलवे,बिजली उत्पादन और अन्य विविधीकृत क्षेत्रों के लिए 10 अरब डॉलर की वित्तीय सहायता देने की घोषणा की। इसके साथ ही दोनों देशों ने अपने द्विपक्षीय संबंध का स्तर बढा कर इसे ‘विशेष रणनीतिक भागीदारी’ के स्तर पर पहुंचाने पर सहमति जताई है। दोनों पक्षों ने उनके रक्षा और सुरक्षा सहयोग को बढावा देने पर सहमति जताते हुए सात समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए जिनमें दोहरे कराधान से बचाव और उनके राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा परिषदों के बीच सहयोग से संबंधी करार शामिल हैं।
India announced a US $1 billion credit line to Mongolia for infrastructure development as they upgraded their ties to “Strategic Partnership” and agreed to deepen defence cooperation besides exploring potential for tie ups in areas like the civil nuclear sector.
भारत ने मंगोलिया को उसके बुनियादी ढांचा विकास में सहयोग के लिए 1 अरब डॉलर की ऋण सुविधा की घोषणा की। वहीं, दोनों देशों के बीच अपने संबंधों को ‘रणनीतिक साझेदारी’ के स्तर तक ले जाने और असैन्य परमाणु क्षेत्रों में संभावना तलाशने के अलावा रक्षा सहयोग मजबूत करने पर भी सहमति बनी।
The growth in Indian economy is forecast to accelerate to 8.1 percent in 2015 and 8.2 percent in 2016, benefiting from the acceleration of infrastructure projects, strong consumer spending due to lower inflation and monetary easing and gradual improvements in market sentiments according to a United Nation’s annual report titled, Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2015 (UNESCAP).
संयुक्त राष्ट्र के एशिया तथा प्रशांत क्षेत्र के आर्थिक एवं सामाजिक सर्वेक्षण (यूएन इस्केप) की वार्षिक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भारत की विकास दर वर्ष 2015 में 8.1 फीसदी रहेगी और 2016 में यह बढ़कर 8.2 फीसदी हो जाएगी। इस विकास का कारण बुनियादी ढांचा परियोजनाओं में तेजी आना, निम्न मुद्रास्फीति और मौद्रिक सहजता की वजह से अधिक उपभोक्ता व्यय तथा बाजार में सुधार है।
The government appointed M.J. Joseph as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in the Ministry of Finance. Joseph, a 1979 batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, was the Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). He succeeds Jawahar Thakur (ICAS-1979) who has been appointed as OSD (Accounting Reforms) in the office of CGA.

India’s first of its kind Tier-I Oil Spill Response Centre (OSRC) for Mumbai Port Trust (MBT), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and ONGC’s facilities at Nhava and Uran (Maharashtra) was inaugurated. It was inaugurated by Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari to tackle pollution and oil spills in and around Mumbai.

The Loan and Project Agreements for World Bank (IBRD) assistance of US$ 400 million for Tamil Nadu Sustainable Urban Development Project were signed between the Government of India/Government of Tamil Nadu and World Bank. The objective of the project is to improve urban services in participating Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in a financially sustainable manner and to pilot improved urban management practices in selected cities. The total project size is US$ 600 million, out of which World Bank support is US$ 400 million.
तमिलनाडु सतत शहरी विकास परियोजना के लिए भारत सरकार/तमिलनाडु सरकार ने 400 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर की विश्व बैंक (आईबीआरडी) सहायता हेतु उसके साथ ऋण एवं परियोजना समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए। परियोजना का लक्ष्य स्थानीय शहरी निकायों (यूएलबी) को वित्तीय समर्थन देना है ताकि नागरिक सेवाओं में सुधार हो सके। इसके अलावा चुने हुए शहरों में शहरी प्रबंधन में सुधार करना भी समझौते के दायरे में है। पूरी परियोजना का आकार 600 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर है, जिसमें से 400 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर विश्व बैंक प्रदान करेगा।
India and the US signed a new strategically important 10-year defence framework pact (2015 Framework for the India-US Defence Relationship) envisaging joint development and manufacture of defence equipment and technology including jet engines, aircraft carrier design and construction. Both sides also finalised two project agreements for hi-tech mobile power source and next generation protective suits for chemical and biological warfare. The framework agreement was inked by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and visiting US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter.
भारत और अमेरिका ने रक्षा उपकरण के सह-विकास एवं उत्पादन तथा जेट इंजन, विमान वाहक पोत डिजाइन एवं निर्माण को ध्यान में रखते हुए रणनीतिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण 10 वर्षीय रक्षा रूपरेखा समझौते (भारत-अमेरिका रक्षा संबंध रूपरेखा 2015) पर हस्ताक्षर किया। दोनों पक्षों ने हाईटेक मोबाइल ऊर्जा सोत और रसायनिक एवं जैविक युद्ध के लिए अगली पीढ़ी के रक्षात्मक सूट के लिए दो परियोजना समझौतों को अंतिम रूप दिया। इस समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर रक्षा मंत्री मनोहर पर्रिकर और भारत की यात्रा पर आये अमेरिकी रक्षा मंत्री एश्टन कार्टर ने किया।
Reserve Bank of India issued its Second Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement, 2015-16. According to the statement Short-term lending rate (repo) has been cut by 0.25 percent to 7.25 percent. Consequently, the reverse repo rate under the LAF stands adjusted to 6.25 percent, and the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 8.25 percent. Cash Reserve Ratio has been kept unchanged at 4 percent. Statutory Liquidity Ratio is retained at 21.5 percent. Inflation is expected to rise to 6 percent by January 2016. Growth forecast has been lowered to 7.6 percent for 2015-16 from 7.8 percent projected in April 2015.
भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने अपना दूसरा द्विमासिक मौद्रिक नीति वक्तव्य, 2015-16 जारी किया है। वक्तव्य के अनुसार अल्पकालिक ऋण दर (रेपो) में 0.25 प्रतिशत की कटौती की गई है जिसके कारण यह 7.25 प्रतिशत हो गयी है। अतः, एलएएफ के तहत रिवर्स रेपो दर 6.25 प्रतिशत हो गयी है, और सीमांत स्थायी सुविधा (एमएसएफ) दर तथा बैंक दर 8.25 प्रतिशत हो गयी है। नकद आरक्षित अनुपात को 4 प्रतिशत पर अपरिवर्तित रखा गया है। सांविधिक चलनिधि अनुपात 21.5 प्रतिशत पर बनाए रखा गया है। मुद्रास्फीति की दर में जनवरी 2016 तक 6 प्रतिशत तक की वृद्धि का अनुमान है। 2015-16 के लिए विकास के पूर्वानुमान को अप्रैल 2015 में अनुमानित 7.8 प्रतिशत से कम करके 7.6 प्रतिशत कर दिया गया है।

West Bengal government had initiated a plan to invest over Rs. 26,000 crore for the development of MSME and Textile sector. A separate textile policy of state was being formulated by the government. Under the plan MSME projects would be set up in joint ventures or through PPP model creating employment opportunities for six lakh people in the state. With this initiative there would be a massive improvement in the MSME sector and definitely the units like handloom, hosiery, zari and many other units.
