Here is what happened the weekend of Friday October 4th through Sunday October 6th around CardNation:

On Friday October 4th:

*In Field Hockey Pels’ Goal in OT Lifts No. 17 Field Hockey to a 2-1 Win over No. 18 Temple

*In Volleyball, Senior outside hitter Emily Juhl had 10 kills and a block to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-19, 25-14, 25-17 sweep of The American Conference foe SMU Friday night in Dallas.

*In Mens Golf, The first day of the seventh annual Brickyard Collegiate golf tournament, Robin Sciot-Siegrist fired a 3-under-par 69 as the University of Louisville Men’s Golf team fired a 1-over par 289. The Cardinals are in fifth place just seven shots behind second-ranked Georgia Tech.

*In Men’s Tennis, The University of Louisville Men’s Tennis team picked up two singles wins and a doubles victory on the first day of Notre Dame’s Bobby Bayliss Invitational. Freshmen Felipe Frias and Eric Bonfre won their singles matches with Frias defeating Western Michigan’s Stephen Payne 3-6,, 6-4, 6-1 and Bonfre topping Cleveland State’s Matt Kuelker 6-2, 6-3. Frias teamed with junior Chris Simich o beat Notre Dame’s Dougie Barnard and Eddy Covalschi 8-5 in doubles.

On Saturday Oct 5th:

*In Women’s Cross Country, Benadate Cheruiyot paced the University of Louisville women’s cross country team with a 22nd-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, guiding the squad to a fourth-place showing at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park.

*In Football, Bridgewater again made the game look easy, throwing for 348 yards and two touchdowns to keep No. 7 Louisville undefeated with a 30-7 victory over winless Temple on Saturday.

*Sophomore Ernest Kibet paced the University of Louisville Men’s Cross Country team with a second-place finish, guiding the squad to the team victory

*The University of Louisville Men’s Tennis team picked up eight wins on day two of the Bobby Bayliss Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. Junior Chris Simich registered a pair singles wins with victories over Cleveland State’s Matt Kuelker and Michigan State’s Aaron Pfister.  Sophomore Jeffrey Brown defeated Notre Dame’s Michael Fredericka in singles and teamed with senior Amaury Derognat to beat Western Michigan’s Stephen Payne and Jimmy Beckwith in doubles. Derognat, junior Michael Lippens and freshmen Eric Bonfre and Felipe Frias also picked up singles wins while Lippens and Bonfre combined for the Cards other doubles win.

*The University of Louisville Men’s golf team slipped into a tie for seventh place at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga., on Saturday. The Cardinals, which were tied for fifth after Friday’s round, slipped into a tie for seventh after shooting 289 and 578 overall in the first two days. Mercer, the host of the tournament leads with 556, while Georgia Tech is second at 557. Antoine LeSaux and Robin Sciot-Siegrist are tied for 23rd overall after slipping a bit on Saturday. LeSaux fired 72-72=144, while Sciot-Siegrist, who shot 69 on Friday, came up with a 75 on Saturday for a two-day total of 144.

*Basketball was in the air again as the Red team defeated the White team 95-80. Russ scored 24 on two twisted ankles and Chane led the Red team in scoring with 25 points and added 13 rebounds. Chris Jones added 21. For the White team, Montrezl Harrell went for 23 and 10 and Freshman Terry Rozier went for 18 and 11. Wayne Blackshear added 20 for the White team. Both teams shot well. The Red team hit 37 of 79 (46.8 percent) while the White was 34 of 74 (45.9 percent)

On Sunday October 6th:

*The No. 17 University of Louisville Field Hockey team extended its win streak to six games with a 3-0 victory over visiting Indiana Sunday at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals improved to 10-2 on the season, marking their best start since 2001. Indiana drops to 6-5.

*Randi Ewing had 10 kills on 11 swings to hit .909 with four blocks to lead the University of Louisville Volleyball team to a 25-19, 26-24, 25-16 in The American Athletic Conference matchup Sunday afternoon in Houston.

*The Louisville Women’s Soccer team extended its winning streak to four games with a 1-0 win over Houston at the Carl Lewis Complex on Sunday afternoon.  Louisville junior Casey Whitfield scored the game winner in the 71st minute to help the Cardinals improve to 8-3-1 on the year and 4-0-0 in league play.  Houston falls to 1-6-3 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play.

*Sophomore Ricardo Velazco provided the offense scoring a pair of goals as the 17th-ranked Louisville men’s soccer team had a record-setting night defensively on Sunday earning its fifth straight shutout in a 2-0 win at SMU at Westcott Field.

*University of Louisville sophomore men’s golfer Robin Sciot-Siegrist finished in sixth place tie at the Brickyard Intercollegiate on Sunday in Macon, Ga. As a team, the Cardinals finished in tie with Florida State for sixth place. The Cardinals fired 289-289-287=865, which was 28 shots behind Mercer, which won with a score of 837. Georgia Tech was two shots behind in second and Virginia Tech was third.
