New Upcoming SUV Cars in India 2016-2017 – Honda BR-V
Honda recently unveiled its all-new small SUV based on the Brio‘s platform called the BR-V at the Auto Expo 2016. It was earlier being reported that the company would be launching the HR-V in India, but those plans were shelved after a survey revealed the production costs for that particular product would be too high. The Brio’s platform already spawns a hatchback, compact sedan and an MPV. Styling retains some of the characteristics of the Mobilio but is largely very different from the rest of the Brio based products. Interiors have also been completely resigned along the lines of the Honda City and Jazz. The new compact SUV will be powered by the same engines as the Amaze and will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. The BR-V comes with a seven-seat configuration giving it a clear edge over its rivals.

Tata will be entering the compact SUV fray with a model based on the Nexon concept. As evident from the model showcased at the Auto Expo, the company is said to be concentrating heavily on the looks of the vehicle which they hope will help them in luring buyers away from the competition. Some even say it could take styling cues from the Range Rover Evoque! Both petrol and diesel engine options will be offered along with manual and AMT gearboxes.

New Upcoming SUV Cars in India 2016-2017 – Tata Hexa
The Tata Aria crossover was a failure in the market despite being a very capable vehicle. But Tata hasn’t yet given up on the vehicle and is readying the Hexa crossover to have another go at it. Showcased recently at the Auto Expo 2016, the Hexa is essentially a thoroughly revamped Aria with revised styling and redone interiors. The result is a much more butch looking vehicle with better exterior styling and better interiors. The concept doesn’t look far from production and it could hit showrooms next year. Engine and transmission options will be shared with the new Safari Storme and there are rumours suggesting that a six-speed automatic transmission could also be offered.

Hyundai announced the re-entry of the Tucson brand name into India at this year’s auto expo. The Tucson will slot in between the popular Creta and the Santa Fe at an estimated starting price of around 18 lacs. The design of the Tucson follows Hyundai’s Fluidic Design language with hints of the Santa Fe and the Creta. It will be launched with petrol and diesel engine options and will be a direct rival to the Honda CR-V. We expected Hyundai to launch the Tucson in the coming months.

The new Fortuner is easily among the most awaited Upcoming SUV cars in India. Toyota will replace the popular Fortuner SUV with an all new next generation version before the advent of next fiscal year. The Fortuner will be based on an all-new platform that promises to be lighter and more spacious and features a much more modern-looking exterior. The car, which was unveiled globally in 2015, was expected to be showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2016 along with the next generation Toyota Innova, but that was not the case. Engine and transmission options will be new as well. We expect a couple of engine choices with optional four-wheel drive and automatic transmissions.

One of the two upcoming new SUV cars in India 2016-17 by Mitsubishi is the next generation Pajero Sport. The car was unveiled internationally last year and will find its way to India some time early next year. It will be based, as always, on the Triton pick-up’s ladder frame chassis and will feature much more aggressive styling and better interiors as compared to the current car. This will be essential if Mitsubishi wants to take to the fight to the next generation Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. A slightly downsized version of the diesel motor offering better efficiency and slightly more power is likely to be offered along with four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission option.

New Upcoming SUV Cars in India 2016-2017 – Renault Kaptur Small SUV
French car maker Renault recently unveiled a small SUV,marginally bigger than the Duster, for the Russian market. It styling draws cues from the Captur, which is sold in Europe and competes with the Ecosport. The Kaptur is expected to be launched in India in 2017 positioned above the Duster. Sister company Nissan is also planning a compact SUV based on the recently showcased Kicks Concept. It will be interesting to see if the two companies jointly develop a new compact SUV for sale in India or go their own separate ways.

New Upcoming SUV Cars in India 2016-2017 – New Mitsubishi Outlander
Long time back, Mitsubishi revealed it’s plan to launch two new SUVs in India by early 2017, one of which will be the next generation Outlander. Aimed as a soft roader, this SUV will take on the CR-V like before, but will also feature a diesel option along with the petrol this time around. This move could potentially turn the tables in Mitsubishi’s favour as the Honda CR-V is yet to get a diesel option. The engine in a question is a 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel producing 148bhp power and 380Nm torque. It will have a seating capacity of seven and will be positioned below the Pajero Sport.

This has to be the most stylish of all upcoming new SUV cars in India 2016! The much awaited Jeep brand should finally enter the Indian market by September 2016 armed with two off-roaders. One of which will be the Jeep Wrangler. The rugged 4×4 will be brought in as a completely built unit (CBU) which means that it will not come cheap. The Wrangler will be available with a 3.6 litre V6 putting out 285bhp and 352.5Nm torque. Being a CBU prices will be steep and are expected to hover around the 30-40 lakh mark.

Spearheading Jeep‘s entry into the Indian market will be the Grand Cherokee, a big butch looking American SUV that will take on the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class, BMW X5 and Audi Q7. Engine options would include a 3.0 litre V6 diesel making 240bhp and 5.7 litre V8 petrol making 360bhp. Jeep is considering assembling the Grand Cherokee in India which mean it could be priced lower than it’s rivals.

This was the most awaited of all upcoming New SUV Cars in India 2016. Starting life as a small SUV concept that was first showcased by Maruti back at the Auto Expo 2012, the Vitara Brezza is close to hitting the Indian car market now. The Vitara Brezza will become Maruti’s first-ever modern compact SUV (yes, the Gypsy is neither modern nor a vehicle that enthralls our car buying lot), and will lock horns with the almost formidable Ford EcoSport. The Vitara Brezza will share its Diesel engine with the Swift hatchback, which means that the upcoming Maruti Compact SUV will be high on fuel mileage and yet have a decent power output. Expected to go on sale for a starting price of INR 7 lakhs, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Price will undercut that of the Ford EcoSport by a considerable margin.
