The Indian automobile industry looks all set to get very busy in the coming years with a plethora of new car launches lined up. HONDA BR-V – BRIO BASED COMPACT SUV

Honda has ditched its plans to launch the HR-V in India after a study revealed that it would turn out to be too expensive for the market and is, instead, planning to bring to us an all new product based on the Brio‘s platform. The compact SUV will compete with the Ford Ecosport and other such vehicles which will be launched this year. Engine and transmission options could be shared with the Amaze sedan, as well as some components to reduce costs.

RENAULT KWID 1.0 L & AMT

Renault launched its Maruti Alto 800 rival last year and took the entry-level car market by storm! At the Auto Expo, the French car maker showcased new variants of the Kwid equipped with a 1.0 L engine and 5-speed Easy-R AMT. Renault is expected to launch these variants in India this year.

TATA TIAGO SEDAN [KITE 5]

Much like its predecessor, the Tata Indica, the Kite hatchback will also spawn a compact sedan which will be the replacement for the Indigo eCS. The sedan has also been spotted testing with heavy camouflage on numerous occasions.Front end styling and interiors will be similar to the Kite hatchback, while the rear might borrow design cues from the Zest sedan. Expect the Tata Kite sedan to be aggressively priced.

MARUTI IGNIS

Maruti will launch the Ignis in India this year and showcased the same at the Auto Expo. The Ignis is a Micro-SUV that will be sold through Nexa outlets and will compete with the Mahindra KUV100. It will be powered by a 1.2 L petrol and 1.3 L diesel engine.

Expected Launch: Festive Season 2016

VOLKSWAGEN AMEO

Volkswagen will launch the new Ameo compact sedan in the second-half of 2016. To be positioned between the Polo and the Vento, the Ameo will rival the likes of Maruti Dzire.The Ameo will also become the cheapest sedan in VW India’s product portfolio.

TATA NEXON COMPACT SUV

Tata is working on a compact SUV called Nexon that was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo. The new range of products by Tata have been well received and are being appreciated for the high levels of quality and equipment. The compact SUV is likely to follow in the footsteps of the Bolt and the Zest and get similar styling and equipment. Engine and transmission options, such as the AMT, could also be carried over from the Zest sedan.

Upcoming Tata Cars at Auto Expo 2016

RENAULT COMPACT SUV

Renault is readying a compact SUV which will slot in below the Duster and take the fight to the Ecosport and other launches that will be taking place by 2016. This new compact SUV could be based on the Duster with the Kaptur’s bodyshell. The Kaptur competes with the Ford Ecosport in Europe and has managed to outsell the later comprehensively.

FIAT X3U

Internally known at the X3U, this compact SUV by Fiat will be introduced in India to take on the Ford Ecosport. Although, Fiat currently sells the Avventura crossover in India, they are said to be working on an all-new compact SUV to compete with the plethora of launches that will be taking place in this particular segment in the coming years. The Fiat 500X could be used as the basis for this compact SUV, however, details are very scarce as of now.

Engines: 1.5 litre JTD diesel

CHEVROLET SPIN

Chevrolet will launch the Spin MPV in India to take on the Ertiga and Mobilio and the recently launched Renault Lodgy. The Spin will be Chevrolet’s third MPV offering in India after the Tavera and the Enjoy, both of which did not gain much popularity as personal mobility vehicles and were relegated to usage mainly in the taxi market. A cross variant based on the MPV could also be offered at a later stage. Lets hope GM gets it right this time with the Spin MPV.

BALENO RS

Showcased alongside the Ignis concept, the Baleno RS is a hotter version of the popular Baleno hatchback. It packs a 110 bhp 1.0 L Boosterjet petrol engine. The concept showcased at the Auto Expo featured a body kit and a roof spoiler. It will be launched some time during the festive season this year.

TOYOTA INNOVA CRYSTA

Toyota‘s popular MPV, the Innova will get an all new avatar in the coming months in the form of the Toyota Innova Crysta. Bigger and more premium than the current car, the 2016 Innova was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo recently. The car gets edgier styling and will target premium mid-size sedans instead of entry level MPVs such as the Eritga, Mobilio, Lodgy, etc. The next generation Innova has to be among the highlights of upcoming cars in India 2016.

HONDA CIVIC

Another of the highly awaited of upcoming cars in India 2016, the Honda Civic will re-enter the Indian market by next year in the form of the latest generation Civic that was unveiled globally last year. Honda will, hopefully, address the issues of poor fuel economy and lack of a diesel motor that led to the company pulling the plug on the Civic in India a few years back.

Upcoming Honda Cars at Auto Expo 2016

NEW HYUNDAI TUCSON

Hyundai India brought in the new gen Tuscon at the Auto Expo 2016. The manufacturer plans to bring the Tucson moniker back to our car market before the end of 2016 and the new model will rival the likes of Honda CR-V. The new Tuscon will be positioned between the Santa Fe and the Creta small SUV.

NEXT GEN TOYOTA FORTUNER

Toyota will launch the next generation of its popular Fortuner SUV by early next year. The new Fortuner has to be among the most highly awaited of all upcoming cars in India 2016. The Fortuner will be based on an all new platform that promises to be lighter and more spacious and could also feature a much more aggressive looking exterior as evident from these images. It will get automatic and manual transmission options and an AWD system as well.

Estimated Price: INR 25-30 lakhs

NEW HONDA ACCORD

The Honda Accord was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and will make a comeback to the Indian market this year. Initially there will be no diesel option, the absence of which was a major factor in its withdrawal from the country, but it will come with a 2.4 litre petrol hybrid and will fight head on with the Toyota Camry. The Accord will be available with a choice of a manual or a CVT transmission and a 1.6 litre diesel engine could also be offered at a later stage.

TATA HEXA

The Aria crossover could never excite the car buying lot. However, Tata could soon change things with the Hexa. The Hexa is basically a reworked Aria that features a heavily revised design and more features. Tata has already made the design public and is expected to announce a launch date shortly.

New Cars in India

TATA TIAGO

Being seen as the logical successor to the ageing Indica hatchback, and earlier called the Zica, the upcoming Tata hatchback will now go on sale as the Tata Tiago. The Tiago becomes the third all new product after the Bolt and Zest in TATA’s product portfolio. The new Tata Tiago launch will take place in March, 2016.

TATA NANO TWIST ACTIVE

Tata has given the Nano its first major facelift since its launch in a bid to inject some life into the sales of the struggling supermini. As part of the facelift the Tata Nano will get revised styling, updated interiors, opening tailgate and more. Also on offer would be the AMT automatic gearbox borrowed from the Zest.

MARUTI CELERIO DIESEL

Maruti has launched the Celerio with the smallest diesel engine seen on a passenger vehicle in India. The indigenously developed 800cc motor produces around 38bhp pf power, which isn’t much, but the torque figure is sufficient for city conditions. The biggest trump card of the engine is its fuel economy, which is around 21 km/l in real world! Sadly, there’s no AMT option available as of now.

NEW FORD FIGO

The latest generation Ford Figo was launched earlier this year, just months after the arrival of its compact sedan derivative. The new Figo is based on the Ka hatchback concept and the Figo concept which was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi. Ford hopes to emulate the current Figo’s success with its new baby.

MARUTI SUZUKI VITARA BREZZA (iV-4 COMPACT SUV)

Once the most awaited of the upcoming cars in India 2016, the just launched Maruti Suzuki will be looking to spoil the EcoSport‘s party by launching their compact SUV contender, tentatively named the iV-4. Test mules have been doing the rounds and after showcasing concepts in two consecutive Auto Expos, Maruti seems to be ready with the final product which should hit showrooms by Diwali. Styling will be based on the iV-4 concept and could also take design cues from the recently unveiled iM-4 Concept at Geneva. Engines and transmission options will, in all probability, be shared with the Swift hatchback.

FORD FIGO ASPIRE

The compact sedan based on the new 2016 Ford Figo has been christened as the Ford Figo Aspire and was launched around mid-2015. Based on the Ford Ka+, the sedan is similar in design to the Figo concept showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. It shares its engines, front-end styling and the interiors with the Figo hatchback and takes on the likes of the Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Zest, etc.

NEW HONDA JAZZ

The latest version of the Honda Jazz hit Indian showrooms last year with a lower starting price than the previous version of the car. Honda has, reportedly, managed to keep costs in check, this time around, by ensuring heavy localisation of parts and has also added a diesel engine to the line-up in order to increase its appeal.

MARUTI SUZUKI NEW BALENO (YRA HATCHBACK)

Maruti Suzuki’s 3-4 new premium hatchback brings back the Baleno moniker to life! Known internally as the YRA, this has been positioned above the Swift hatchback to compete with the likes of the Honda Jazz and Hyudai i20.

MAHINDRA TUV300

The beloved Bolero UV gets a smaller sibling the form of TUV300, a sub 4 meter SUV that looks poised to become a best-seller. It is based on a hydroformed chassis and hence, has improved dynamics and reduced weight. The car is a blend of utilitarian Bolero looks and modern additions such as a touchscreen infotainment system for the centre console. The sub 4-meter length means that competes with the Ford Ecosport and other compact SUVs that will be launch this year.

MAHINDRA KUV100

After the launch of the new TUV300 , Mahindra has come up with another compact UV. The KUV100 is a Mahindra’s take on the hatchback segment. It features SUV-like exteriors and is powered by a 1.2 L petrol and a 1.2 L diesel engine.

HYUNDAI CRETA

Hyundai has taken the compact SUV market by a storm with the launch of the new ix25 which is slated for , which is being called as the Creta in India.The Creta looks striking with its sharp headlamps, rising window line and smart wraparound tail lamps. Much like the Chinese version, the Creta also gets features such as projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights

Upcoming Hyundai Cars at Auto expo 2016

NEW FORD ENDEAVOUR

Once the most awaited SUV in our list of upcoming cars in India 2016, the struggling Ford Endeavour got its long-awaited replacement this year. The next generation Ford Endeavour is much more rugged and butch looking on the outside and inside and feels much more premium than before. You get an option of either a 2.2 L diesel or a 3.2 L diesel with automatic and manual transmission options.

CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER
