In 2016, the tech enthusiasts witnessed quite a boost in the mobile computing department. However, looking beyond the issues with exploding smartphones and how Samsung is now desperately trying to handle its crisis, consumers have little to be excited for.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the best Android smartphone currently available on the marked is no other than the Google Pixel XL. With its impressive 5.5-inch AMOLED screen, unrivaled battery life, and a camera that is only fitting for such an exquisite device, rival companies can only dream to rival with this piece of technology.
Furthermore, in terms of hardware, nothing can top the Google Pixel XL. Also, the fact that it is manufactured by Google means that the proud owners of a Pixel smartphone will always be up to date with the latest Android versions. However, the Google Pixel also has its downsides. One would be that in order to work with the virtual assistants the smartphone features, the user is forced to hand over large amounts of personal information to Google. Nevertheless, this issue does not bug some people, so it may not represent a drawback at all.
Another and maybe the best example of a stumbling block is the Google Pixel XL’s price. An individual looking to purchase the smartphone will find the Google Pixel XL featured on Amazon with a starting price of $999.98 for the 32 Gb version. Also, the Google Pixel XL option that comes with a total of 128 Gb of internal storage is available for $1,194.49.
When comparing these prices against a Huawei Mate 8, or Huawei P9 retail value, one would notice that after purchasing a cheaper smartphone that also comes with Android, the customer will still have enough to spare for a night out with friends.
However, if a customer really wants to have the latest piece of mobile technology and is looking for the shiniest device, going for slower units may not be so appealing. Nevertheless, the latest advancements in mobile technology in recent years have not resulted in any must-have performance gains. In short, a device manufactured last year with decent specs is approximately on the same level with a unit built more recently with the same performances. The only thing that changes are price and the fact that refreshing hardware becomes less and less of a deciding factor, given the fact that it cannot keep up with the latest apps.
When looking back, it seems that the highlights of 2016 revolved around exploding units and jackless smartphones. However, in the meantime, when all the attention was going to Samsung’s misfortune and Apple’s innovations, the Chinese flagship phone manufacturers have enjoyed great success. As a result, while Apple has slumped, the Chinese brands Vivo and Oppo have streaked ahead.
