LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif ordered the release of arrested farmers who were detained by the Punjab Police outside Lahore Press Club. Police had booked as many as 268 farmers under section 290 and 291 of the Pakistan Penal Code on Wednesday, Capital TV reported.
Hundreds of farmers from the province had gathered in front of the Lahore Press Club to register their concerns and force the government to meet their demands. Police resorted to baton-charge as the farmers refused to leave the venue until their demands were met.
