Canlan Ice Sports Burnaby 8 Rinks is the premier recreational ice sports facility in Metro Vancouver. Our 250,000 square foot facility features six NHL-sized ice rinks, one indoor soccer field, and one dedicated figure skating rink. We’re home to the largest recreational adult hockey and indoor soccer leagues in Metro Vancouver with over 500 teams participating annually in the ASHL (Adult Safe Hockey League) and 140 teams in the Indoor Soccer Leagues. Also in the facility is the 1000 seat, full service Thirsty Penguin Grillhouse and our sport store.

Canlan Ice Sports - Burnaby 8-Rinks

Under the direction of the Programs Manager, the Head of Athlete Development is responsible for the direction of specified programs and more generally to assist with the sales/marketing and execution, including on-ice instruction and coaching development of all programs as well as youth leagues.

QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIAL SKILLS:

Minimum of 3 years work experience in a new product/business development role, preferably within the sports / recreational industry;

Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to new business development, sports and recreation management;

Experience in sports program execution, preferably within the ice rink industry;

Considerable knowledge of financial management;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

Excellent presentation skills;

Demonstrated ability in writing detailed reports;

Ability to express views, ideas and facts effectively both orally and in writing;

Proven presentation skills;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior management and staff;

Demonstrated ability to develop, plan, execute and complete multiple projects simultaneously;

Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, direct, evaluate and supervise the work of employees;

Demonstrated ability to plan and manage budgets;

Proven management and administrative skills;

Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines and organizational requirements effectively;

Self motivated, professional and flexible; able to work both independently and as part of a team;

Ability to travel on a regular basis. This role requires both office presence and facility visits, (travel is a requirement and the volume is dependent on various projects or initiatives which fall under this role);

EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION:

Experience

Minimum five years of work experience in an instructional and/or coaching capacity;

Must have basic first aid training;

Ability to coach all levels of hockey including pre-school, youth, adult and rep calibre hockey;

Strong understanding of skating and hockey fundamentals;

Junior, varsity or professional level hockey playing experience an asset;

NCCP Development Stream 2 (or equivalent); Proof of valid coaching certifications required

Must be in possession of the Hockey Canada Safety Program;

Must be in possession of, or be able to attend courses for High Performance Stream Level 1 & 2 within a two year period (upon availability of courses in applicable region);  Proof of valid coaching certifications required

Ability to provide current drills and lesson plans for programs, coaching or team development currently or previously utilized;

Minimum of five parent and/or player testimonials within the last two years of instructing and/or coaching;

Letter of reference from minor hockey, figure skating or Ringette association whom you are previously or presently coaching;

Strong leadership skills required;

Participation as member on any board of any youth sports organization is an asset;

Education:

Graduation from post-secondary institution in kinesiology, sport administration or sports management or equivalent experience
