TOP TIPS FOR BOOSTING YOUR BUSINESS EVENT USING SOCIAL MEDIA

Using social media is a great way to boost your business event. With the help of social media you can:

Generate awareness of your event at pre-registration time;

Increase the profile of your event amongst your peers and the media;

Create a digital community from your conference attendees; and

Make a newsworthy buzz around key outtakes during and post event.

Before the event

Ensure your website has all the pre event details – create an event specific page on your own website so that your delegates have a one-stop shop for all the info they need.

Have a hashtag, or #two – create a unique official event hashtag for your delegates to use during your event, and ensure everyone has the correct and relevant business hashtags at the ready. Be sure to communicate it!

During the event

Get snap happy – take loads of pictures during the event for your own live social media publishing, and for promotional use post event.

Schedule and publish – if you’re involved in running your event you’re likely to be too busy for live posting during the event so schedule some tweets and Facebook posts ahead of time – and build these into the mix of the ones you do have time to create live. And publish often!

Film it – get some video footage of your event – chat to delegates, get some footage of the action as it happens, interview guest speakers – then get ready to share your video content via social media. Get creative – who knows, it may go viral. Video is also a great way to show non-attendees why they should attend next time.

After the event

Blog it – write about your experiences, upload to your website and syndicate via social media. Do it soon after the conference to recap your experiences while they’re top of mind.

Connect with your connections – ensure anyone you met stays connected with you after your event. Make a personalised connection with them on LinkedIn and Facebook if appropriate, and don’t forget to follow them on Twitter.

CASE STUDIES

Internationally-renowned FASHFEST shines at The National Convention Centre.

The National Convention Centre is Canberra’s largest, purpose-built functions, meetings and events venue. Unrivalled in facilities, size and scope, the convention centre provides a collection of more than 15 spaces over two floors and provides all visitors with a warm, open and hospitable welcome.

Given its chance to shine as host of FASHFEST 2015, the NCCC did not disappoint. Thanks to the new venue and a special modular seating system shipped in more than 1000 visitors per night were able to be accommodated. Each night of Fashfest 2015 incorporated a different theme – activist, inventor, cartographer, engineer – which was reflected in the fashion, the music and the atmosphere created by lighting displays and short films.

Jenifer Dwyer Slee, Director of Sales and Marketing at the National Convention Centre, said that the opportunity to host an internationally-renowned event like FASHFEST dovetailed perfectly with the NCCC’s key goal for 2015; to enhance partnerships and collaboration across the Canberra community.

Ms Dwyer Slee suggested that an important component of this goal was targeting “the creative community, which is growing by leaps and bounds in the capital.”

The National Convention Centre is passionate about providing visitors to Canberra real insight in to the natural and cultural activities people can immerse themselves in, such as a visit to the iconic Parliament House or Australian War Memorial and taking in the picturesque landscapes of the city and surrounds.

In their recent imaginative and exploratory video, the NCCC is aiming to “showcase Canberra, and the many possibilities when organising a conference, meeting or event in the Nation’s capital,” Ms Dwyer-Slee said.

The National Convention Centre offers visitors and delegates genuine access to influential national bodies as well as important local and federal government contacts, world leading researchers, academics, scientists and innovators in a range of fields.

The National Convention Centre in the capital is truly the place where the Nation meets; where Federal Government conducts its business and is confident, bold and ready to embrace the future of our city.

INTERNATIONAL XXVI MINT DIRECTORS CONFERENCE REAPS ONGOING REWARDS.

When the Royal Australian Mint hosted the XXVI Mint Directors Conference (MDC) in Canberra in September 2010 it brought together over 350 minting industry representatives from around the world.

Apart from the broader networking, economic and tourism benefits associated with hosting the MDC, the Mint was proud to be able to show off its newly refurbished facilities and upgraded production processes to heads of world mints and other representatives from the minting industry.

But the benefits of hosting this prestigious international conference did not stop there.  Years on, the Royal Australian Mint continues to reap the benefit from hosting the MDC.

With the help of a $30,000 grant from Tourism Australia, the Mint saw the MDC as an opportunity to invite members of the Pacific Islands Central Banks to visit the Royal Australian Mint.  Delegates from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tonga joined other delegates taking advantage of the chance to build relationships and exchange knowledge.

Having the opportunity to showcase the Mint’s expertise and facilities to its neighbours helped pave the way for a number of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and agreements with Pacific Island Central Banks to be signed, laying the groundwork to work cooperatively on coinage reform programs, supply agreements and the provision of other coinage related services and advice.

“The MDC 2010 assisted the Mint to forge a special relationship with its South Pacific neighbouring countries.  The Mint now not only designs and manufactures coins for Samoa and the Solomon Islands; it also provides technical advice on coin related issues. It has helped us reaffirm the Mint’s position as a world class producer of coins for both general circulation and for commemorative occasions, “said Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Australian Mint, Mr Ross MacDiarmid.

The Mint plans to continue to actively pursue opportunities to demonstrate its expertise in coin reform and its status as a world leading minting facility as it builds on relationships established at the XXVI Mint Directors Conference it hosted in Canberra in 2010.

Nine countries were represented at the seminar and as a direct outcome of hosting the conference relationships were further developed with future opportunities on the horizon for the Mint.
