Ah summertime. Also known as festival season. Whether you’re heading to a big music event (and there’s still plenty to be found in Canada and the U.S.) or something a little more culturally driven – like a food festival, or something totally offbeat like Calgary’s Beakerhead – there’s always an air of Bohemia in the air. That’s what inspired today’s Trend Watch post, which is centered on hippie-inspired gift ideas.

From L to R

Marie Turnor Ginella Bucket Bag – $438 @ Anthropologie: The bucket bag is closely associated with 90s fashion, but its roots are in the hippie realm. This awesome leather and suede option updates the look by adding a metallic sheen to a doe brown shoulder bag.

Fairest of Them All Dress – $72 @ Ever Rose: This dress is amazing. It goes from day-to-night, summer-to-fall, casual-to-classy, all with just a few accessory swaps. With a midi length and pretty floral print, you’ll find yourself twirling about in no time. It also just happens to make a fab festival look!

Southwestern Band Wool Fedora – $22.90 @ Forever 21: Every hippie chic look is capped off by a perfect little hat and Forever 21 has tons of affordable options. I like the southwestern nod with the fabric band on this woolen, camel-hued hat.

NAILS INC. Luxe Boho Polish in Portobello Crescent – $17 @ Sephora: After spotting hippie-inspired looks on the runway, NAILS INC. created a triad of speckled polishes that can be layered for a fresh boho look. Featuring muted purples, plums, pinks, and browns, they’re a great way to add a little retro fun to your H2T ensemble.

Hillberg & Berk Sersei Bracelet – $445: Turquoise jewelry is synonymous with hippie style – but it doesn’t need to look too earthy. Many jewelry designers are ‘owning’ turquoise with fabulous stylish pieces, like this stunning chunky turquoise bracelet, inspired by the waves of the Mediterranean Sea.

Vera Wang Hippie Princess Perfume – $49 @ Shoppers Drug Mart: I am a sucker for Vera Wang’s Princess perfume collection, which has had about a half-dozen incarnations. Like the original, all of the perfumes in the line tend to have a fruity, sugary, fresh scent that you can’t help but adore. This latest entry smells of tangy mango and apple blossom, which is offset by jasmine, lotus, and a kiss of vanilla – to name just a few notes in this fresh fragrance. Finally, a perfume that breaks the hippie myth of only smelling like patchouli!

Sammy Raw Edge Kimono – $62 @ Free People: Want to keep that boho vibe going into the fall? Try a kimono, like this easy breezy version from Free People. Available in eight different patterns, it’s an effortless way to stay warm once the sun sets at whatever festival you’re frequenting this summer.
