During Sony’s E3 press conference today the company emphasized its advantage in the indie gaming scene, placed an emphasis on exclusive content and showed of a small amount of exclusive titles.

While far from the resounding victory of last year’s E3, Sony still had a decent show.

Sony opened their E3 2014 press conference with a trailer for Destiny, the new, original title from 343 Industries, the creator of the Halo franchise.

Destiny is coming to the PlayStation 4 first

As expected both the game’s visuals, tone and music are very similar to the Halo franchise’s, although this is far from a bad thing. Andrew House then took to the stage to state that Destiny’s beta is set to launch on July 17th on the PS4.

The game looks similar to Little Big Planet 2 but also includes multiple new character with special abilities and an emphasis on co-operative gameplay and multiplayer.

Four developers showed off various portions of the game’s co-operative gameplay during a demonstration that felt slightly too long. In an industry full of gritty first-person shooters, it’s great to see Sony still has faith in the Little Big Planet series’ cutesy aesthetic and classic sidescrolling gameplay.

The Far Cry 4 demo also gave us a glimpse at how the game’s drop in/drop out co-operative multiplayer is going to work, allowing the player to call in a helping hand on certain missions.

Impressive title, No Man’s Sky gets a new trailer

Finally, the impressive No Man’s Sky, was shown off and revealed as an exclusive title for the PlayStation 4. After watching the game’s trailer, it’s difficult to believe No Man’s Sky is an indie title developed by an extremely small studio, Hello Games – but it is.

No Man’s Sky features a procedurally developed universe resulting in no two players having the same experience with the game.  Its vibrant and unique graphical style is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. While impressive, it’s hard to believe that an extremely small studio is going to be able to pull off a title of this magnitude.
