The Otomotif College - An Overview

In Year 2005, The Otomotif College (TOC) was established with an industry relevant curriculum based on experiential learning to produce the highly competent and qualified graduates who would meet the needs of the automotive industry.

A new generation of high-tech automotive technicians armed with computerized diagnostic tools and engine analysers have replaced the antiquated image of the auto-mechanic in a greasy apron and armed with a spanner. High-tech systems that were unknown 30 years ago are now common: stability and traction control systems, adaptive cruise control and variable valve timing, to name but a few.

The Otomotif College foresaw these developments and moved quickly to invest in high-end equipment and facilities that ensure students are able to adapt to this rapidly evolving environment. Coupled with a staff of top-grade experienced trainers, sourced from around the world, TOC is  engaging students with technologically advanced equipment and software to provide them with a constantly evolving, world-class automotive education.

In 2009, as a response to the growing importance and challenging dynamic of Malaysia’s motorsport industry, TOC instituted Malaysia’s first ever Diploma in Motorsport Technology. It’s part of a philosophy that sees TOC constantly pushing boundaries to remain at the forefront of automotive and motorsport education and to provide the best possible training, facilities and opportunities for their students and graduates.

Facilities

The Otomotif College - Facilities

As their commitment to provide the best automotive education and prepare students for sophisticated and electronically complex automobiles, The Otomotif College has heavily invested millions to purchase the latest technology training equipments, sophisticated software, high-end branded equipment and cutting-edge facilities.

ACADEMIC FACILITIES

Autotronics Laboratory

A dedicated auto-electrical and electronics training system gives students a thorough understanding of fault diagnostic techniques. Consisting of a combination of large simulator panels, demonstrators and electronic circuit boards, trainees are able to work on the simulator panels at their own pace before moving on to 'live' vehicles.

Students also have access to an Electrical Master and Electromagnetism Master Exercise Board for their electronic semi-conductor training, as well as other high-end teaching aids like Oscilloscopes for use in reading digital and analogue signals.

Variety of Training Vehicles

TOC student are exposed to the latest engines and cars with an extensive garage of bought-in and partner-supplied vehicles from brands including Citröen, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Subaru, Hyundai and Proton, as well as our race-tuned Nissan Skyline R34 and Subaru Impreza STI Vr. 8 and the next generation technology of the Honda Civic Hybrid.

Chassis Dynamometer

TOC is the first college in Malaysia to provide an in-house four-wheel Dynojet for student use, giving them the unique ability to run front-wheel, rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive vehicle diagnostics on the same system. A cutting-edge solution, it can take horsepower and torque measurements on the front and rear wheels together or separately as required.

Component Training Areas

TOC has a whole floor dedicated to the teaching of specific automotive subjects including chassis, drive train, engines and engine management.

Engine Blueprinting Lab

The Engine Blueprinting Lab is all about power. Emphasizing the role of efficiency, students are able to demonstrate the relationships between different components and learn how those links can improve or reduce the engine's power output.

Software

TOC uses a top-of-the-line programmable Engine Control Unit manufactured by industry leader and engine management expert MoTeC, which is used by race teams worldwide. Controlling and monitoring all aspects of the engine system, the system offers a number of sophisticated tuning features that includes continuous variable camshaft control, drive by wire throttle control, Ref/Sync trigger capture and 4D tuning tables.

SolidWorks 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software helps our motorsport students to create 3D designs for their studies on motion, airflow, streamlining and aerodynamics. Simulations allow them to test their own designs and subject them to the conditions of a virtual wind tunnel.

E-Learning

TOC's Electude is a unique, innovative e-learning tool. This online automotive diagnostic program operates much like a realistic console game and allows students to learn in a dynamic and experiential format.
