camexpo Keynotes enjoy increased capacity for 2014

Thanks to its new venue for 2014, more visitors than ever before will be able to benefit from camexpo’s popular Keynote content when the show returns for its 12th edition on 4-5 October at Olympia London.

Prompted by 2013’s robust seminar turnout, which saw many sessions generously oversubscribed, Keynote Theatre 1 (sponsored by Revital) now boasts almost double the capacity of previous years. Big name speakers, including Patrick Holford, Leon Chaitow, Yvonne Bishop-Weston, Antony Haynes, Professor Ben Pfeifer, and Dr Marilyn Glenville, will now be able to address nearly 500 attendees at a time.

“It’s a privilege to be invited back again this year to take part in camexpo’s Keynote sessions,” says top women’s health nutritionist Dr Glenville, the former President of the Food and Health Forum at the Royal Society of Medicine. “For two full days everything is under one roof – offering practitioners and students access to top quality seminars, workshops, and a wealth of supplement and natural product companies.”

A keen support and regular speaker at camexpo for years – Dr Marilyn Glenville is known for attracting standing-room-only crowds. Indeed, such is her popularity with camexpo audiences that she is the only speaker to be hosting two Keynotes (‘Osteoporosis – how to prevent, treat and reverse It’ and ‘Using nutrition to boost fertility and prevent miscarriage’) over the weekend show.

Using nutrition to boost fertility and prevent miscarriage

“Over the past twenty years, fertility problems have increased dramatically,” she says, speaking ahead of her Keynote on the subject. “At least 25% of couples planning a baby will have trouble conceiving, and more and more couples are turning to IVF to help them have a family.”

“Fertility is multi-factorial but there is now sufficient evidence to support the view that nutrition has a valuable part to play in improving fertility for both men and women,” she explains.

“It is not enough to just recommend that couples to eat a ‘well balanced diet’, as it is clear from the research that most people are not getting adequate nutrient levels from their food alone. It is also not enough to supplement with only individual nutrients, such as folic acid, as the synergistic effect of nutrients needs to be considered.

“Having a nutritional assessment alongside routine fertility investigations is vital and may result in natural conception, especially where unexplained infertility, which makes up 30% of all cases, is implicated. This would save on drug treatment and would also reduce the need for IVF. It also means that if the nutritional approach increases the IVF success rate then it will lessen the number of IVF attempts a couple may need,” she says.

Dr Glenville will be using her session (at 2pm on Sunday 5 October) to show how certain nutrients can improve male and female fertility either for natural conception or IVF, and how nutrition can help with immunological problems that may be affecting fertility and miscarriage. The impact of lifestyle, occupational, and environmental factors will also be discussed.

Tailored specifically to equip complementary practitioners, therapists and healthcare professionals with the latest research and techniques, the full camexpo Keynote seminar programme – including sessions by Jayney Goddard, president of The Complementary Medical Association, CAM Coach Mark Shields, Ayurvedic specialist Dr Deepa Apte, Dr Robert Verkerk, executive & scientific director of campaign group the Alliance for Natural Health International – is available to view online at www.camexpo.co.uk/seminars.

To book for an entry ticket to camexpo (including admission to the show’s two Keynote Theatres, sponsored by Revital), please visit www.camexpo.co.uk/register and use priority code CMEX588 to register in advance for £7.50 before 3 October.

camexpo will take place at the new venue of Olympia, London, on 4-5 October 2014.

The world’s most advanced joint complex supplement drink

Revive Active Joint Complex, reduced pain and increased mobility for your joints

In a crowded market of health products supplements, it can often be difficult to distinguish one joint health product from the other. However, NEW Revive Active Joint Complex is the health drink supplement that promises to deliver high doses of essential and specific joint health ingredients in a delicious daily supplement.

Each daily sachet of Revive Active Joint Complex includes the following ingredients:

• Hyaluronic Acid (100mgs)
Hyaluronic acid is found naturally within joints, particularly within joint fluid and cartilage. Hyaluronic acid acts as a shock absorber and lubricant giving relief from pressure and increasing function. In osteoarthritis, hyaluronic acid levels decrease impairing its ability to help protect joints, while supplementation helps reduce pain and improve joint mobility.
• Marine Collagen (5,000mgs)
Collagen peptides are the building blocks of cartilage. Marine collagen helps produce new cartilage along with glucosamine to help repair damaged joints. Marine collagen has been scientifically proven to stimulate cartilage and bone building cells to repair damaged joints, while reducing pain and increasing joint function. Revive Active Joint Complex uses Peptan®, collagen peptides made using Rousselot technology. Studies have shown that this technique makes collagen more bioavailable and better absorbed into joint cartilage. Peptan® has been shown in studies to reduce pain and improve joint function
• MSM (2,000mg) A powerful antioxidant and anti- inflammatory used in the treatment of osteoarthritis. MSM sooths and cools the hot painful joint tissue, helping to reduce joint inflammation and pain. A study published in the Journal of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage found that MSM significantly reduced joint pain while improving physical function.
• Glucosamine Sulphate (1,000mgs)
Glucosamine is naturally produced by the body and provides natural building blocks for growth, repair and cartilage maintenance, but levels decline during osteoarthritis. Glucosamine lays the foundation for joint repair and shows synergistic effects with collagen and has been shown in studies to promote good joint health. Glucosamine may also help lubricate joints and prevent the deterioration of cartilage.

Revive Active Joint Complex also contains the following joint health vitamin and minerals:

• Vitamin C. Essential for the growth and repair of tissues throughout the body, it also helps produce collagen found in cartilage, skin, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels.
• Manganese Citrate. Involved in the growth and development of normal bone structure, as well as the formation of mucopolysaccharides, which are needed for the maintenance of healthy joint membranes.
• Boron. Used in the treatment of osteoarthritis and in the strengthening of bones
• Copper Gluconate. Involved in the maturation and structural integrity of collagen proteins found within joints.

Revive Active Joint Complex is the next revolution in joint health supplements. It is formulated to help with the following factors for overall good joint health:

• Reducing pain

• Increasing mobility

• Repairing cartilage

Taking Revive Active Joint Complex is as simple as mixing one of the daily single serving sachets with water. With no need for shakers or spoons, Revive Active Joint Complex is a great tasting fine powder with no artificial sweeteners and is easy to dissolve in a wide variety of liquids. It is available in a delicious mixed berry flavor.

Don’t let your pain or mobility hold you back. Feel active with Revive Active Joint Complex

UK Lymphology Clinics launch a new preventative healthcare training programme to meet the needs of breast cancer survivors in the UK

2015 will mark an important breakthrough in post-operative healthcare as a new treatment called Lymphatic Pressure Therapy becomes available to help fight the most feared side effect of post breast cancer patients, the occurrence of Lymphoedema.

This is a fantastic opportunity to further develop your career skills in healthcare with a new City & Guilds accreditation as a Lymphatic Pressure Therapist (LPT). UK Lymphology Clinics (UKLC) on Stand 2113 are recruiting for Lymphatic Pressure Therapists, training commences February 2015.

Yvette Jordan a Lymphatic Specialist Practitioner and Lymphoedema Therapist has developed Lymphatic Pressure Therapy from 35 year`s experience, this balanced blend of professional disciplines, designed specifically to maximise post-operative recovery among breast cancer patients.

“Breast cancer happens to 1 in 8 women, patients so desperately need aftercare treatment and massage therapists are perfectly capable of training in this new therapy. What we are doing at UKLC is a significant step to bringing greater focus on the consequences of post cancer treatment, critically the well-being of patients on their survivorship journey and being cared for,’ says Yvette

“Our new healthcare therapy approach is so much more than just massage and provides aftercare with trained therapists in a relaxing setting that is restorative and soothing and stops patients feeling like patients. A milestone therapy, any one of us could very well need in the future.”

Lymphoedema is a preventable condition when addressed in the early stages and with continued awareness maintained by a LPT therapist. Effecting 1 in 3 patients, Lymphoedema occurs when there is an interruption in the flow of the lymphatic system which prevents lymph fluid from draining correctly. Left untreated this can lead to painful uncomfortable swelling in the extremities and loss of movement due to fibrosis and a constant reminder of the cancer.

UKLC’s vision for the future is to train LPT therapists nationwide and raise awareness of the benefits of this preventative therapy which will enable all breast cancer patients’ reassuring access to immediate aftercare with continued professional monitoring. UKLC will work alongside cancer charities, private healthcare and insurance companies.

Training is open to massage therapists, complementary therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, physiotherapists.

There are 8 training courses in South East England.in 2015 and information sessions will be held in Spire Hospitals in January. The training cost is £1500. For more information and to register, please go to www.theuklc.com

Aduna launches Moringa ‘Miracle Tree’ Green Superleaf Powder

Aduna, the Africa-inspired health and beauty brand and social business, has launched its second ‘super ingredient’ moringa to the UK.

Widely regarded as one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, this 100%-organic, raw wholefood is made from the naturally-dried leaf of the moringa tree. Native to Africa and Asia, the moringa tree or ‘Miracle Tree’ as it is commonly known, has long been valued for its medicinal properties.

Moringa boasts a wide range of health and vitality elevating properties with almost 25% protein (including all nine amino acids) and 13 essential vitamins and minerals at Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) levels. To qualify as a ‘source’ or ‘rich source’ of a vitamin or mineral, a food must contain 15% or 30% respectively RDA per 100g of the nutrient. Even when compared to the most established ‘green superfoods’ from all over the world such as Spirulina and Chlorella, moringa is significantly more nutrient-dense. Moringa is a ‘rich source’ or ‘source’ of 13 vitamins and minerals including: vitamins A, K, E, B1, B2, B3, B6, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, zinc, calcium and iron. Spirulina is a source of 7 and Chlorella of 8.

Moringa also has an exceptionally high antioxidant content. With an ORAC value of 157,000¹, It has six times the antioxidant content of goji berries (goji berry powder has an ORAC value of 25,300) and more antioxidants than green tea, blueberries, acai and pomegranates. Antioxidants include vitamins and phytochemicals (plant chemicals) which help protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Flavour-wise, unlike chlorella and spirulina, which are algae and often found unpalatable, moringa has an earthy, ‘spinachy’ taste and is ideal for sprinkling onto salads, adding to soups or mixing into smoothies.

Consultant Nutritionist for Aduna and Founder of Nutrition Rocks Hala El-Shafie, said: “Moringa is an excellent natural source of both iron and vitamin A, making it a useful supplement for battling fatigue whilst also providing a rich source of antioxidants for healthy skin. For vegans, vegetarians and women who don’t get enough iron in their diet, moringa is a nutritionally rich option.”

Aduna Moringa Green Superleaf Powder is available from Holland & Barrett, Liberty, Wholefoods Market, Planet Organic, Selfridges, As Nature Intended, Revital and other leading independent retailers nationwide and online via www.aduna.com.

New treatment for depression achieves ground-breaking results

First clinic in the UK to offer repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) as a drug-free treatment for depression reveals outstanding patient results

The London Psychiatry Centre is the first clinic in the United Kingdom that is able to provide patients with repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) — a safe and proven intervention to help overcome treatment-resistant depression without the use of antidepressant medication.

Depression is the most common mental health disorder, affecting about 1 in 10 people every year. Studies show that up to two thirds of those who suffer from depression will continue to do so despite taking antidepressants and / or undergoing psychotherapy.

rTMS is a ground-breaking treatment for adult patients with Clinical Depression. It provides a solution to those for whom antidepressant medications have failed to provide satisfactory relief.

rTMS is a newly licensed and approved treatment in the UK to treat depression. It utilises magnetic pulses to target the area of the brain that regulates mood. It selectively alters activity in specific areas of the brain, resulting in a positive improvement in mental health. rTMS is safe, highly effective, long lasting, non-invasive, pain free, and has virtually no side effects.

At The London Psychiatry Centre, treatment using rTMS is short but intense, around 25 minutes per session — five sessions each week are required for 2-6 weeks.

To date, the clinic has treated 83 patients with treatment-resistant depression who were previously unable to achieve relief. Out of these patients, 55 (66%) achieved remission (full recovery) within 6 weeks (4 weeks on average) and most have been well for between 1-12 months with infrequent maintenance. There have been no side effects noted.

This swift and meaningful result for patients who have suffered for very long periods of time with unrelenting depression, is life changing. In many cases, rTMS patients can return to work within a few weeks of starting treatment – as opposed to the average of 9 months with drug treatment, psychotherapy and ECT.

Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Rafael Euba oversees rTMS at The London Psychiatry Centre, and is the first clinician in the UK to offer rTMS for the treatment of depression. He is one of a very small group of brain stimulation experts in the UK who have a deep clinical understanding of this effective and ground-breaking treatment for depression.

“After all my many years of treating patients, I believe rTMS to be the best solution for people with treatment-resistant depression. For many sufferers, it works where other interventions have failed.”
