CAMDEN — A
Rutgers–Camden marketing major has been recognized as one of “Philly’s Future” outstanding
marketing professionals by the Philly Ad Club.
Amelia Kaselaan,
from Haddonfield, is the recipient
of one of 10 scholarships awarded by the Philly Ad Club to students studying advertising
and communications. She received a $2,500 Philly’s Future Scholarship Award
toward her education at the Rutgers School of Business–Camden.
“It was such a
surprise to be nominated,” says Kaselaan, a junior at Rutgers–Camden and a
graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School. “The scholarship means the world
to me.”
Kaselaan says she
is passionate about marketing and communications and is currently pursuing her
interests through her job at Fisher Glenn, LLC, an accounting firm in Stratford,
Camden County, and an internship at the Philadelphia Zoo.
“They’re two
different experiences that allow me to flex different muscles and help me get
me in the door,” Kaselaan says. “I want to be versatile, so I want to get my
feet wet and gain as much experience as I can.”
At Fisher Glenn,
Kaselaan has developed numerous marketing projects for accounting and
investment services and she maintains the company’s website and Facebook page.
She is also involved with the Philadelphia Zoo’s social media efforts and
assisted in the development of a new website for the zoo.
“I want to be
involved in digital marketing and both jobs have given me real life
experience,” Kaselaan says. “It’s an exciting time and digital media is growing
and opening up a lot of opportunities for my generation. It allows me to tap
into my creativity.”
At Rutgers–Camden,
Kaselaan is involved in the student marketing association as a public relations
officer. In that role, she publicizes campus meetings and events with digital
and print advertisements.
After she attains
her bachelor’s degree, Kaselaan intends to remain at Rutgers–Camden to pursue
her master’s degree in marketing.
“Rutgers–Camden has
been incredible. It’s helped me realize what I want to do after I graduate and
is helping me reach my goals,” Kaselaan says. “The faculty is amazing and I’ve
developed great relationships here. Rutgers has helped me blossom.”
The Philly Ad Club,
the largest advertising and marketing professional organization in the
Philadelphia region, has more than 2,600 members. It awarded $42,000 in
scholarships this year to 10 Philadelphia area college students.
The annual Philly’s
Future Scholarship Awards are a way to acknowledge students who represent the
future of the industry and encourage them to pursue their careers in
Philadelphia.
Kaselaan was chosen
for the scholarship after being nominated by a Rutgers–Camden faculty member and
submitting an application along with several essays describing her interest in
advertising and her academic and professional accomplishments. She was also
interviewed in person by Philly Ad Club’s scholarship committee.
The scholarship
money is raised through dedicated Philly Ad Club fundraising programs.
