A Paris-based company has created a plastic surgery app designed to show the likely result of a specific cosmetic enhancement even before a person goes under the knife. The software can be downloaded on any smartphone, computer and tablet.

According to Kaeria EURL’s website, the new app is designed to take advantage of the growing popularity of cosmetic plastic surgery and to help their customers access “realistic simulations” of surgical enhancements they are interested in.

Last year alone, Americans underwent 14.6 million cosmetic procedures, both surgical and non-surgical enhancements, worth about $11 billion.  Meanwhile, experts suggest the trend may continue for the next coming years due to the aging baby boomers who are more “socially active” compared to earlier generations.

The new app, which the company dubbed as Plastic Surgery Simulator, can be downloaded for free, although its “more sophisticated” version requires a minimal fee.

To use the imaging technology, the company said a person must upload a picture of herself which can be tweaked with the use of simple tools.  The app works the same way as the “Photoshop,” although it is designed for easy use.

The French company posted some “demo gallery photos” showing the before and after result of liposuction, rhinoplasty or nose job, chin implant surgery, weight loss, lip augmentation, breast implant surgery, and muscle augmentation using the new app.

Meanwhile, a growing number of US plastic surgeons are using 3D imaging to help their patients see from different angles the “most likely result” of the surgery they want to undergo.  According to anecdotal reports, the technology is particularly helpful in reducing the rate of revision breast augmentation, which is often requested by women who think that their implants are too big or too small.
