The strength of Alberta’s residential building industry is evident in this year’s shortlist of finalists for the annual Awards of Excellence in Building.
The 75 finalists for these awards from the Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Alberta have representation from all six chapters in the province. The awards, judged by more than 140 industry members, recognize top builders, renovators and community developers.
This year, awards in 25 individual categories, plus three Builder of the Year awards will be presented on Sept. 18 at the association’s Build 2015 conference in Jasper. The winners of the Safety Leadership Awards will also be presented at this time.
“This year we have finalists from all six of the local home builder associations from across the province. That demonstrates the tremendous pride our builders, renovators and developers take in their work,” says Tally Hutchinson, president of CHBA-Alberta, in a news release. “Our members are competing to be named Alberta’s best in a range of categories that reflect the options available in today’s marketplace.”
Of more than 400 submissions, the Calgary region leads the competition with 34 finalists, followed by 29 finalists from Edmonton, Lethbridge with eight, two for Central Alberta and one each for Grande Prairie and Medicine Hat.
For homes in Calgary, Albi Homes, Brad-Mar Homes and Empire Custom Homes each have three finalists. Albi Homes and its partner company Albi Renova together have five Calgary-based finalists, while Homes by Avi and Avi Urban together have four finalists in Calgary (and a further single nomination in Edmonton).
The Builder of the Year awards are presented to the score leaders for the competition, with CHBA-Alberta presenting awards to the small volume and multi-family winners, and the Ralph Scurfield Award being presented to the large volume builder.
