The City of Calgary has a variety of fun and exciting events planned for Canada Dayyc 2014 and it’s time to start planning just how to see it all.
The day kicks off at Fort Calgary with a free pancake breakfast at 9 a.m., and Prince’s Island Park will be a rich display of aboriginal culture and dress when the First Nations Powwow starts at 9:30 a.m.
At 4 p.m. you could be one of 3000 people to receive a free red or white Canada Day t-shirt and participate in the Living Flag. This activity will have participants join in to create the Canadian flag while singing O Canada.
The evening will be full of more activities where you can chose to visit the Riverfront Stage for an amazing line-up of musical talent, head down to the Festival Market to test the cuisine of almost 30 different food trucks or check out one of the amazing events hosted by our downtown partners.
Things you should know before heading down
With so much going on, in so many different places, it’s best to come down prepared.
“With a 100,000 people expected to attend this year’s festivities we want to share some information that will make it a safe, enjoyable and thoroughly memorable experience for the whole family,” said Teresa Byrne, Superintendent, Event Services. “Attendees are encouraged to walk, bike and take transit downtown and to help with this we've added extra bike racks and organized two different shuttle routes.”
Along with extra bike racks The City will have water bottle refill stations, fire hydrant water fountains, extra waste and recycling bins and portable washrooms.
Parking bans and road closures will be in effect. These closures are necessary to help with our city’s celebrations and to ensure public safety. For more information check out our Things you should know.
End the evening with a bang
For those looking for a good location for the fireworks, if you can see the sky above the Centre Street Bridge you are going to have a wonderful view. This fireworks show is presented by Hudson’s Bay and will be synchronized to the live music broadcast by 101.5 Kool FM and 95.3 The Peak.
