ACS continued its recovery efforts at the warehouse in Baton Rouge, La., taking in supplies from around the region and distributing them. A letter from the state was sent to public and non-governmental organizations, informing them about the ACS-operated warehouse. The letter also offers guidance on donated goods. An Oakwood student, Gabriel Carter, of Atlanta, Georgia, was recently named by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as one of 73 students from 63 HBCUs chosen as the 2016 HBCU All-Stars. MORE
Prepared for an earthquake? Adventist Community Services (ACS) was a lead partner in the Aug. 22-25, 2016, National Mass Care Exercise in Missouri. In the largest event of its kind to date, more than 835 volunteered for the exercise, including more than 125 Adventists. MORE
On July 9, Julian Jones-Campbell became the first woman in the Greater New York Conference to be commissioned to pastoral ministry. The commissioning took place at the English camp meeting in Wingdale. “This is a ground-breaking day for the Greater New York Conference,” said keynote speaker Ivan Williams, NAD Ministerial Association director. Adventist Information Ministry (AIM) is the central contact center for Seventh-day Adventist media outreach and evangelistic follow-up in the North American Division. More than 70 representatives comprise the Michigan-bassed contact center team, answering more than 200,000 calls a year. Each conference in the North American Division plans a camp meeting (some are 10-day events!) filled with seminars and sermons that teach biblical principles, healthier lifestyles, practical living principles, and more. Ready to Move? The GC and NAD are hosting a health fair on Let’s Move Day on Sunday, September 18, 2016, on the grounds of the GC. There will be a 5K, free dental/vision care, free health screenings, kids Olympics, healthy foods, and much more. This event is in partnership with AMEN, Adventist HealthCare, Southern Asian Adventist Church, and Washington Adventist University. We need YOUR help, please sign up as a volunteer at www.Adventist.org/healthfair. Needed: dental and vision professionals, nurses, translators, and volunteers in many other areas. The NAD Women Pastors and Chaplains Retreat will be held from Sept. 11-14, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Based on Isaiah 40:31, the goal for the retreat will be to help renew the strength of women in ministry so that they can continue to run and not get weary, to walk and not faint. Join us as we renew our faith, focus, and friendships. This event promises to provide a time of refreshing so that, as women, we can return to our positions soaring on wings like eagles! HE SAID GO Missions Conference 2016: The purpose of this conference, to be held on Nov. 18-20 in San Diego, Calif., is to serve as a catalyst for missions, not only overseas, but also in domestic service. It is our prayer that our local church members become active in their communities and abroad. In order to accomplish this task, we are inviting medical professionals, our union and conference leaders, university/college presidents and their respective chaplains, along with their missions coordinators, to be part of this special gathering. We are also inviting youth directors, youth pastors, academy chaplains, and young adults. From Native American mission opportunities, including the Siberian Eskimos in northern Alaska, to Guam-Micronesia Mission territory, it is our prayer that everyone attending will choose to respond to the opportunities of service that God may present to them. SDA Attorneys’ Conference and Retreat is back! In the 1980s, this event brought attorneys from across NAD together for networking and learning. After a two-decade hiatus, the conference will be held in Henderson, Nevada, on Oct. 20-23. Attendees will also be able to earn 10+ hours of CLE credits. This conference is sponsored jointly by the Office of General Counsel of the General Conference and the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department of the North American Division. The Adventurer Club Starter Kitincludes Leader and Director Guides, an Award Poster, a CD with the Adventurer theme song, and more. Mission Accomplished
Chloe Dillard’s first impression of our camp was that the place was “big.” She says she was nervous when she first arrived. She shares that her favorite part of camp was “the last day when we got to sleep on the floor in the gym and watch the movie.” Tiffany and George Dillard, Chloe’s parents, say, “We sent our daughter to camp to get a positive Christian experience. Our church does not have a large amount of young people and although they make an effort, the youth do not often have programming that is catered for them.” The Dillards wanted their daughter to learn that it can be fun to be an Adventist Christian. They want her to know that there are lots of other kids just like her who love God and want to be more like Jesus. The Dillards share that Chloe “loved her camp experience and at the end requested to be baptized. Mission accomplished.”
