West Virginia has asked the Adventist Church to help oversee the distribution of aid to those af fected by devastating floods this past week that killed at least 23 people and left thousands homeless. “The area was in dire need prior to the event. More than 600 Pathfinders participated in the Pathfinder Bible Experience this April, with 95 teams representing the nine unions of the NAD and five teams representing the British Union. In order to get to the Arizona “Bible bowl,” Pathfinders, coaches, and families had to successfully complete conference and union level testing in the two months before the NAD PBE. MORE

It’s camp meeting time! The Seventh-day Adventist Church has been conducting camp meetings for more than 100 years. Each conference in the North American Division plans a camp meeting (some are 10-day events!) filled with seminars and sermons that teach biblical principles, healthier lifestyles, practical living principles, and more. July 9 — save the date! NAD Women’s Ministries would like for members to remember that July 9 is “Women’s Ministries Offering” day. Offerings collected that day will go toward preparing resources to equip, train, and empower women in Adventist churches. Local churches can plan a special offering appeal, and may choose to watch this 5-minute video about women’s ministries. Free bulletin inserts are also available.
You are invited to attend the 2016 Adventist Muslim Relations (AMR) Networking Meeting on July 7-10. During this annual event, missiologists, practitioners, and theologians get together for a weekend to study how to effectively reach out to our Muslim neighbors. This year’s event will be held at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich. The event is free, but lodging and meals together are $200. Safe Celebrations: more than 10,000 people received fireworks-related injuries in 2014 and an average of 230 people visit the emergency room every day due to a fireworks-related injury in the month surrounding July 4th. Make sure visitors to your area can find your church with directional and highway signs. Place an attractive and inviting church yard sign in front of your church. Do you have an active Children’s Ministry or someone appointed to provide a children’s Sabbath school if children arrive? The Women’s Ministries Offering will be collected Sabbath, July 9. Postcards (as mentioned in the Announcements section) have been sent to the local churches, and free, downloadable bulletin inserts are available here. You might also want to show the video, “Nurturing with a Purpose,” which tells more about the types of ministries women are doing across the division to share Jesus with other women.
Each Church a Center for Health and Healing
The focus in the North American Division in July is “Adventist Lifestyle.” Here’s a glimpse into the church’s philosophy, as it appears on the NAD Health Ministries website:
“It is God’s desire that each of us may have an abundant life (John 10:10), and that means abundance of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. These areas of our lives are all interconnected and cannot be neglected if we want to experience whole person health. . . . We believe our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and we must care for it intelligently so we can fully experience God’s presence and discern His will in our lives.
“Adventist Health Ministries mission is to encourage and enable Adventist church leaders and members not only to experience a healthful abundant life but also to share the divine principles for whole person health with individuals in their communities and a world in need. Our goal is that each church in North America may become a center for health and healing in which people may come to learn evidence based health information and find restoration for a hurting body, mind, or soul.”

A Living Classroom: George P. Stone Elementary School
America’s heartland today still is dotted with many one-, two-, and three-teacher elementary schools. In fact, 87 percent of all Seventh-day Adventist elementary schools in the United States reflect this learning environment profile. In the Mid-America Union, the percentage of elementary schools with three or more grades per teacher is even higher at 91 percent. George P. Stone Elementary School is one of these schools.
When Kurt and Beth Miyashiro moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, from a small town in Illinois, they looked at all the elementary education options for their children. The family valued a small learning environment where older students interact and help younger children.
They found an education match at George P. Stone school, a full-fledged multi-grade, two-teacher elementary school operating on the campus of Union College under the direction of the Education Department of the Human Development Division.
This school is unique in that it is also a teacher-in-training learning environment where student teachers observe, interact with students, and model what they learn from master teachers.
“As parents, it is our most earnest desire for our children to develop morally and spiritually,” said Beth. “We want to have our children in a school that provides support and guidance that leads them toward eternity.
