We round up WWE’s Best Matches of The Week on pay-per-view and on television, with action seen on Raw, SmackDown, Main Event, Superstars, and NXT. We rank them in a top 10 form, and with the amount of matches to chose from, only the very best make the cut.
Hulk Hogan may have returned to Raw last week, but the show was quite average to say the least.
Therefore, we've got to give props where it's due, and we're going to dedicate top spots to the superstars of NXT that shined on NXT Arrival this past Thursday on WWE Network.
Here's another installment of WWE's Best Matches of The Week.
Honorable Mentions
-- Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio -- SmackDown, Feb. 28, 2014
--Kofi Kingston vs. Damien Sandow -- Superstars, Feb. 29, 2014
--Goldust, Cody Rhodes & Los Matadores vs. Ryback, Curtis Axel, Drew McIntyre & Jinder Mahal -- Superstars, Feb. 29, 2014
Without further ado, here is the top 10:
10. Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt -- Raw, Feb. 24, 2014
This contest between two of the best talents in the company proved to be nothing spectacular.
Maybe it was because the crowd was incredibly disinterested or they weren't given the proper platform to really have a memorable match.
It wasn't the worst thing ever, but there weren't any breathtaking or noteworthy sequences, either.
9. Batista vs. Dolph Ziggler -- SmackDown, Feb. 28, 2014
Honestly, thank God that Batista turned heel because we can actually stomach having him back and the distaste from the crowd makes more sense now that he's one of the bad guys.
The match between "The Animal" and Ziggler was okay. It was a good showing from both and that kept us interested throughout the bout.
8. Sheamus vs. Christian -- Raw, Feb. 24, 2014
This match went on a little too long, but it was good.
It was everything you'd expect from "The Celtic Warrior" and Christian, and solid wrestling matches such as this one between two mainstays round up the show as a whole.
Too bad Raw was kind of like a three-hour sleeping pill this week, minus the climactic ending.
7. Goldust, Cody Rhodes, Los Matadores & El Torito vs. Ryback, Curtis Axel & 3MB -- Main Event, Feb. 26, 2014
Damn, son...looks like El Torito is finally getting that big push. However, someone needs to tell him that when you pin your opponent, you're not suppose to take his shoulder off the mat by yanking his arm up.
Charles Robinson didn't catch it, but he's not going to be so lucky next time with a competent referee.
6. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane -- Raw, Feb. 24, 2014
You don't know how happy we are that we got to see this on Raw, instead of booking it at WrestleMania.
Hopefully, Bryan can close "The Corporate Kane" chapter in his life and move onto greener pastures -- which is a match with Triple H at the "Showcase of The Immortals."
We hope CM Punk returns to Raw in Chicago to flip the switch, because if not, we have to mark out and actually think about Bryan losing to Triple H in a month.
5. Daniel Bryan & The Usos vs. Kane & The New Age Outlaws -- SmackDown, Feb. 28, 2014
It was the future of WWE on one side against the grandpas from the Attitude Era on the other.
We were treated to a pretty good main event on SmackDown, with the match being similar to something you would see at a house show -- you get some good moments and you know how it's going to end.
The match clocked in a little over 10 minutes and they found a way for Bryan to please the crowd -- and he's the one selling tickets these days (unless you're eight and you own three John Cena shirts).
All fingers point to Bryan vs. Billy Gunn on Raw this week, since the "B+ Superstar" pinned "Mr. Ass."
4. Big E vs. Cesaro -- Raw, Feb. 24, 2014
This match was very interesting, to say the least.
These two competitors went at it for quite a while on Raw and that's exactly what Big E needs to grow as a major force moving forward. With all due respect to the champ, he's already suffering the same fate as Rocky Maivia when the fans decided to turn on him.
He's lucky that someone like Cesaro can help him accomplish those goals, since arguably the best wrestler in the company today gives him the experience he needs.
And experience pays dividends in this business.
They got enough time on the flagship show to work and impress, unlike some match ups that were mentioned prior to this selection.
3. Paige vs. Emma (NXT Women's Championship) -- NXT Arrival, Feb. 27, 2014
Apart from the current WWE Divas Champion, the rest of the Divas locker room should have been taking notes.
This is the freshest rivalry to come out of the Divas division in a long time, and these two fine young ladies have the chemistry to keep this going for several months.
Emma is getting significant airtime with her new beau Santino Marella and that's fine for what it's worth.
So, when does Paige get the call up to have a dream rivalry with AJ Lee?
2. Bo Dallas vs. Adrian Neville (Ladder Match for NXT Championship) -- NXT Arrival, Feb. 27, 2014
There shouldn't be any doubts that both Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville are ready to make the jump out of NXT.
Both athletes have the charisma and natural abilities to be major players in the future.
This ladder match could have included a few more dangerous spots, yet it was a great showing from both in the biggest match of their lives.
The crowd seemed a little restless towards then end, although that doesn't mean it wasn't one of the better matches broadcast from WWE last week.
Say what you will about Dallas, but the guy has that early 1990s heel look down pat (definitely received advice from his tax-paying father, I.R.S.), and it's only a matter of time until he grows on you. Some of us are already true "BOlievers."
Too bad he lost the title.
1. Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro -- NXT Arrival, February 27, 2014
You already knew which match was going to get the top spot this week.
If you don't watch NXT, we get it. There are usually only a few good matches per month and we don't need to see Tyler Breeze that much, either.
However, this is the type of stuff you're missing in your life.
The Sami Zayn-Cesaro rivalry has given us some of the best wrestling matches we have ever seen (yes, we're serious) and it's too bad that fans who only tune into the top two shows every week miss out on this type of gold.
Usually, the older and wiser vet lies down to put the young up and coming superstar over, but that wasn't even necessary. Zayn is a stud and he's jumping ship in no time.
These matches are a breath of fresh air and the rapport between these two is incomparable to any other superstars that are feuding or having matches with each other at this present time.
Plus, that hug at the end is why your wife makes fun of you when you have to hold back the tears while watching wrestling.
It's understandable that the NXT Championship had to headline the show, however why was this match first? They couldn't put Alexander Rusev's first-degree murders on before this?
A little bit of foreplay next time, please.
There you have it.
Was there a match that was left out which got you mad? If so, leave it in the comments section below, and we'll do our best to make amends.
