We're back with yet another dose of amazing work injected by you, the Cageside commenters. Many of you have impressed us all by producing some amazing work and golden comments yet again. So it's that time of the week to recognize the excellent FanPosts, FanShots, and comments that were the "Best in the World" (of Cageside) this past week.

As always, thanks to Cagesider Ecstasy with Extra Cheese for cleverly naming our Weekly Cageside Commenters Awards "The RECs", which perfectly sums up what this feature tries to do. After all, without all of you, Cageside Seats would not be the greatest pro wrestling website on the Internet.

So, without further ado, we present to you...

Hulk Hogan Is quickly turning in to Michael Jackson. Let me explain. I loved MJ as a kid, worshiped him, his music, his videos. Then I got older and started to see behind the curtain at who he really was. I still loved MJ the performer but the man was far from this super hero, moon walking, dance machine that his stage persona was. Hulk is the same. There is Hulk the performer who is larger than life, got me to believe in prayer, vitamins and the american way. Then there is Hulk the man who is sleazy, two faced, and pretty gross. by LowBudgetJeff on Jan 15, 2013 1:40 AM EST 3 recs

I have absolutely no problem with the no HBK, Stone Cold stuff. Honestly, even for a nostalgia show, I just don’t want to see that. Steve Austin is 48, can’t wrestle, and hasn’t been interesting in years. Some people need to cut the cord, so to speak, and concern themselves with the product that exists now. Go watch a DVD if you miss Stone Cold; it won’t dissapoint you. WWE has the Royal Rumble in two weeks, and they should focus on building that show. Unfortunately, they did a really, REALLY, shitty job of doing that too. That’s why this show blew major chunks, not because they didn’t parade a bunch of non-wrestlers out for pointless segments. by Gophermike on Jan 14, 2013 11:51 PM EST 4 recs

From the "WWE Raw results and reactions from last night (Jan. 14): Twinkie tits? Yeah, twinkie tits" thread:

Not just win, but act like nothing happened. Cena gets put in a sleeper…that’s fine, he’ll just climb the cage with Ziggler on his back since he’s Super Cena. Cena gets hit by a huge maneuver while Ziggler crawls for the door…that’s fine, he’ll just spring up to his feet and scamper up the cage in 2 seconds, since he’s Super Cena. Gets hit with 5 potentially move-ending spots over the course of the match…that’s fine, he’ll hit one AA, then run around all smiles and act like he never got remotely hurt at all, since he’s Super Cena. It’s not JUST that he wins, he wins in a way that utterly delegitimizes everything his opponent has done. by Kryptik on Jan 15, 2013 2:30 PM EST 6 recs

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell ‘em stories that don’t go anywhere – like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. “Give me five bees for a quarter,” you’d say. Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones… by LowBudgetJeff on Jan 15, 2013 11:44 PM EST 5 recs

From the "Understanding the problem with The Rock in WWE in 2013" thread:

And from a booking persective, him announcing that he’d be back for Rumble to take on Punk left us in a looooong holding pattern with predictable results. Barring a swerve of nWo proportions, Rock will be taking the WWE title from Punk at Rumble (with a slim possibility of it happening at Elimination Chamber) and will be taking on John Cena at Wrestlemania for that title. It’s difficult to compare, but imagine if you were told which teams would be playing in the Superbowl in August. It would be difficult to care about or follow along with the NFL season knowing the eventual outcome. That’s kind of what it feels like here…we know where this is headed and have a good sense of the path that will take us there. So even beyond the Rock’s current character, I really hope the WWE never spoils the main event of it’s biggest show half a year ahead of time ever again. by DarkTalon on Jan 15, 2013 4:29 PM EST 3 recs

and also from the same thread...

Stone Cold isn't the best superstar to use as a comparison. As much as I like the guy, his “arrive, raise hell, leave” shtick is hardly more entertaining than the lame promos The Rock’s been frequently cutting since his return two years ago. The problem is that you’re comparing “Stone Cold the full-time performer” to “Rock the returning movie star”. That’s not fair to The Rock. Your description of the stuff Stone Cold supposedly generally does isn’t an accurate depiction of Stone Cold the special attraction, it’s an accurate description of Stone Cold the full-time wrestler, and that Stone Cold doesn’t exist anymore. by frapm on Jan 15, 2013 5:56 PM EST 3 recs

From the"RAW reactions: Don't be a bully, be a (Rock) star!" thread:

"RAW reactions: Umm... It's not real." It’s a television program, Vicki probably gave him a high five for her having a role in the closing segment and probably highest viewed portion of the televised show…It’s strictly business ppl. I especially love the fans who think It’s ok to gawk and go testosterone crazy when a woman has a wardrobe malfunction and say sexist stuff but when it’s the complete opposite they get up on there soap box & get all righteous… Look it’s all ENTERTAINMENT, these performers are ENTERTAINERS, and they signed up for all the things they are a part of in their respective roles in the program. I laugh when ppl say the Internet killed kayfabe and that the fans are too “smart”… Because when ppl are taking what is said by a performer or the actions made by a performer in a TV show as true examples of the persons character and how they really conduct them selves in the real world… I’d say Kayfabe is alive and well. by RECE ROCK on Jan 16, 2013 9:34 AM EST 3 recs

and also from the same thread...

This post screams of an emotional response to not wanting to think critically about things. And I get that, I really do, they don’t teach that stuff in school anymore really. Snark aside (had to get some in, because you are just so mad.)I really believe that you are the one who is failing to understand a whole lot of things. First, questioning and objecting to the content of a particular program doesn’t mean that those objecting to it don’t realize it’s a tv show, that the rock is an actor, that wrasslin’ is a work. That’s quite a leap you made there. Yes, it is a job for the people involved, yes, it is not actually reality. Are people not allowed to feel something after taking in a piece of drama? A question, what is the propaganda here? The desire to see people, being represented as “good guys” not act like terrible, horrible, transgressive pieces of shit? Is that the propaganda? When WWE forwards stuff like this as positive, they are making a virtue of being a cruel, childish misogynist, and this is nothing new, we all know this. Where men that are a little different are, duh huh, gay, and where women, when displaying anything beyond total subservience are reduced crazy whores. You know what, my man? That doesn’t sound like escaping reality to me at all, that sounds like wallowing in an exaggerated form of our current social reality. Where is the appeal in that? Entertainment media, like it or not, think it’s just DAMN TV or not, has social value and the themes presented, especially on shows as heavily consumed as Raw, do impact the way people (especially very young people) view the world they live in and influence how they interact with it. That seems like a very simple, very uncontroversial point. What I am saying here is that media influences those that consume it. Wrestling isn’t comparable to the movies you mentioned either, there are differences in the way we consume these forms of media, and that is a different discussion. Also, Schindler’s List is based on real events and is not the same as the terminator. I threw that line in so you can ignore the other stuff I said. I know how the internet works. Let’s hug it out.
