Midheaven Neon Makeup Look courtesy of Rouge Bunny Rouge

If you are a  Çafleurebon you know Rouge Bunny Rouge primarily for  our perfume reviews (Allegria, Muse,Cynefin, Embers, Sylvan, Tenera, Tundra, Arcadia, Sillhoute ). You may not know that Creative Director Alexandra de Montfort  started her company with a beauty collection, and just as in the fragrances,  her passion shows in the quality and whimsical names and packaging of the makeup.

I’ve been a devotee of the liquid eyeliner/porcelain skin/red lipss for decades, as it’s a beguiling look adopted by Old Hollywood celebs  (think Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe) and modern day superstars like  Dita Von Teese  and Gwen Stefani). Always classic and chic, and is easily updated with of-the-moment color.  Rouge Bunny Rouge has a collection for Spring 2015  “Midheaven Neon" that is a foolproof way to create this look at any age in a few easy steps.

It begins with Perfecting Primer Genesis ($59); I’m not a huge fan of primers but this one goes on in a thin, smooth layer that doesn’t cake under foundation. It feels finer than the typical primer and creates a great blank canvas. Don’t be alarmed when applying if you initially see a slight greyish tint– it fades momentarily.

Photos and Swatches: Sketches on Water Tinted Moisturizer in Sequoia/Milk Aquarelle Foundation in Almond Milk Parfait

Rouge Bunny Rouge offers  three different types of foundation in the Midheaven Neon range; the first is Sketches on Water Tinted Moisturizer ($55), which comes in three shades, Adansonia, Quercus, and Sequoia. All three versions are fairly neutral and run slightly light, so if you are very tan, olive or dark complected these will most likely not work for you. (If you are cool toned or warm toned fair- medium tan one may suit you).  Sketches on Water blends nicely with my complexion and performs exactly the way you would expect from a tinted moisturizer. My favorite is the Liquid Foundation Milk Aquarelle.  It is avaiable in five shades; I used Almond Milk Parfait, described as a pale, yellow-toned beige, and it was a good match (for comparison’s sake, I’m an NC20 in the MAC system, and Cashew Milk which is the darkest in the range is spot on for Michelyn who is a NC40 in the MAC system). I have not tried The Time Defying Foundation ($55) which offers a full coverage and four shades, (For reference Michelyn wears the deepest shade Barley Cream which is described as a medium honeyed beige and it is a tad light for summer, but perfect for winter and early spring).

A medium coverage liquid, Milk Aquarelle is the best I’ve seen in ages, banishing imperfections while providing a luminous  coverage.  A little bit goes a long way, so start with a couple of drops and blends outward. For best results use a foundation brush, Rouge Bunny Rouge has an excellent Foundation Brush, with slightly tapered top, made of their patented Tecalon fibres which doesn’t absorb the foundation like natural fiber brushes often do.  Although Milk Aquarelle is highly pigmented, it is not opaque  and nrver cakes so you don’t look the slightest bit overly made up. There is no unwanted shine, and the foundation doesn’t settle in fine lines, meaning it can stand proud up against the high end department store foundations out there. ($60/9.98 fl oz)

Photos and Swatches of Long Lasting Matte Eyeshadow in Blackpepper Jay/Papyrus Canary

Rouge Bunny Rouge Long Lasting Matte Eye Shadow  Papyrus Canary (pale golden beige) and Blackpepper Jay (a sooty medium deep grey) are matte without looking flat. They glide on the eye, with no fall out, highly pigmented, feel creamy and wonderfully blendable (the latter being critical in this case because they’re so high-contrast). I recommend using a light hand if you want  a subtle day look, but smoky eye lovers will love them for drama. Purchased separately they are $25 each, but we both recommend that you buy the Rouge Bunny Rouge Eyeshadow Duo Keeper ($15) and  theMatte  Eyeshadow Refills ($19 each) so that you can pop different colors in and out…also great for travel.

Nocturnal Ink Satin Eyeliner in Blue Roan

Nocturnal Ink Satin Eyeliner in Blue Roan ($32) was another standout of this collection for me. I find marker style eyeliners are the easiest to apply with a steady hand, and this one is super-fine but and can be worn to subtly rim the upper lashes or if you want to make a bold statement with a sex goddess cat eye. The color of this product is midnight blue with lapis undertones. We suggest you wear this color instead of black if you have brown eyes as it really pops.

Swatch Rouge Bunny Rouge Sheer Lipstick Succulence of Dew in Relish of Heaven

Rouge Bunny Rouge tops off the look with its superior Sheer Lipstick Succulence of Dew ($29) in Relish of Heaven. This lipstick is a bright clear red (not too blue nor orange)  that  never screams RED due to its lovely sheerness. Relishes of Heaven is a great choice for those who want to try bold color without committing all the way. All the Succulence of Dew lipsticks and are hydrating and  Jasmine Weighted Air, is Michelyn's new go to fuschia (featured on the model in the Spring ad).
