As we become increasingly mobile, it’s important for cable providers to find ways to allow us to take our favorite TV shows on the road. Before the travel bug bites, take time to find a provider that travels well with you and can let you enjoy cable on the go.

XFINITY®

You can take your XFINITY entertainment along, no matter where you go, with the XFINITY TV Go app. You can watch thousands of programs through XFINITY On Demand™ simply by downloading the app on your Android or Apple device and logging into your XFINITY account.

The service works on smartphones and tablets with 3G, 4G of Wi-Fi capabilities. You’ll also have access to Showtime®, Starz®, Movieplex® and Encore® if you’ve subscribed through XFINITY TV. The app includes features like genre filtering, video playback, parental controls and closed captioning. You can also download up to 10 different programs to view offline.

Time Warner Cable®

Time Warner Cable subscribers can enjoy their favorite shows on multiple devices with the TWC TV® app. The app gives you access to over 1,000 hours of On Demand programming wherever your device has a Wi-Fi connection. App users can watch dozens of live TV channels on their smartphones, tablets, and laptops, including BBC America, The Travel Channel and the Big Ten Network.

As a bonus, the app also functions as a remote control when you’re home, which makes it even more convenient, as your smartphone is probably always in your hand anyway.

Optimum

Optimum lets you watch TV on mobile devices through their TV to GO service. You simply download the Optimum TV app on your smartphone wherever you find an Internet connection and choose your favorite network or show. Enter your Optimum ID and password and you’re set. Popular networks on the app include HBO GO®, Showtime Anytime®, WATCH Disney, AMC and Cartoon Network.

Optimum TV to GO requires a subscription to the service along with a subscription to the corresponding network you’re trying to watch and only works within the United States.

Mediacom

If you’ve signed up with Mediacom you can watch TV on your cell phone, laptop or other device with their boundary-free TV Everywhere℠ service. Choose your favorite network and download their mobile app and then logon with your Mediacom ID and you’ll have access to available movies, live streaming and TV shows in your subscription.

Mediacom doesn’t currently have their own all-in-one app to access these features, so you’ll have to download each network app separately to access content at this time. Most of the network apps are available in the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Charter Spectrum TV™

Charter Spectrum customers can also enjoy cable on the go through their TV On the Go service. Subscribers have access to over 60 channels including ESPN, HBO, CNN and TBS on their mobile devices where they have Internet access. You’ll be able to watch On Demand content, live streaming and set a channel watch list for your favorite shows.

To access content you must first download the network app for the channel you’d like to watch, then login with your charter.net email address and password. You can access content from your mobile device, laptop or computer.

With the Charter App you can also download shows at home onto your mobile device or tablet to watch offline while you’re on a plane or on your next road trip.

Cox

Cox is another provider that allows access through the TV Everywhere service, in which you must download third-party apps through the network in order to access content. You’ll login using your Cox user ID on each app and from there you can watch your favorite programs. Currently, Cox has its own Contour App that allows you to watch TV on demand, but only inside of your home. Some of the networks Cox will give you access to include HBO GO, MAX GO® and WatchESPN.

Which is the Best?

While not every provider offers an all-in-one app to help you access your favorite shows, they all do provide a great way to connect away from home. If you want easy availability for all of your subscriptions in one place XFINITY and TWC provide that. However, if you find yourself only wanting a few favorite channels while you’re traveling, the other providers’ option to download separate network apps and log in to each of those to view your programs is a great choice, too.

As more people choose to access content online you can expect cable providers to continue to find ways to provide service outside the home.
