Abu Dhabi has been selected to host the IDF Congress, the biennial international health congress. The event will be held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in December 2017.

Around 15,000 experts are expected to attend the event, bringing in expected revenue of AED$150m (US$40.8m).

“With specific reference to diabetes, as part of our commitment to promoting a healthy community in Abu Dhabi, HAAD is working closely with its partners to raise awareness on disease prevention, and we draw on expertise from international best practice when it comes to treatment and overall management allowing us to share globally,” said Dr Maha Taysir Barakat, director general of the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD).

“This is a huge vote of confidence by the Federation in ADNEC’s capabilities to host major world conventions,” said Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, acting group CEO of ADNEC.

“Winning the bid for IDF Congress 2017 once again reaffirms the confidence of international organisations in our unique capabilities to host events of such profound importance and magnitude.”

Supported by Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau (ADCB) and ADNEC, Abu Dhabi prevailed over a number of well-known cities to host the IDF Congress 2017.

The event has been held in different locations around the world and features interactive sessions, seminars and workshops to examine international best practices, advanced diabetic care, prevention and treatment methods and technologies, as well as access to medicines, and education and awareness.

“IDF Congress is unique because of the complexity and scope of the diabetes topics that are covered. It is a truly international meeting that provides basis for interaction and learning, and comprises something for everyone who has any interest in diabetes” said Prof Nam Han Cho, programme committee chair at IDF Congress 2017.

ADNEC comprises venues offering a total of 133,000sqm of floor space. Its facilities allow ADNEC to host indoor, outdoor and marine events simultaneously. Equipped with modern facilities and built to international standards, the venue attracted 1.8m people across 369 events in 2015. In addition ADNEC also owns and operates ExCeL London, Al Ain Convention Centre (AACC), Capital Gate, and Capital Centre.
