Invented by the British, the first trace of Cricket goes all the way back to the 16th century but the development of the game progressed rapidly during the 18th century and spread to different parts of the globe, mainly to the countries colonized by the British. The renowned ‘Ashes series’, a tournament held between arch rivals England and Australia was called so after Australia’s first win over England in 1882. It was termed as the “Death” of England cricket and the stumps and bails were burnt to signify the same. The media then dubbed the following series as the “quest to regain the ashes” and the name has stood ever since. Another tournament that gets the world on their heels is the world cup. Like every other sport it is played once in four years and which includes at least 10 different nations battling it out to reign supreme. Each such tournament has gifted cricket fans several unforgettable moments and memories worth cherishing for a really long time. A few of these wonderful moments have been photographed by shutterbugs and have also earned spots at a few museums. Here are the 48 most iconic images of cricket history and you might end up with Goosebumps after watching them.
