When the holiday stress and hustle and bustle begin to wear on you, it is time to take a step back. For our family, that means we need to create some fun. Nothing diffuses stress and tension like having a great family game night!

Now I know what you may be thinking…

“Amber! I’m already stressed with the holidays and shopping for presents, work, school projects, wrapping, holiday travel, etc etc! How in the world am I supposed to face planning a family game night?”

Well, let me tell you! It is super easy! And it will be worth it! Trust me! You NEED this day off for a family game night!

Host a Stress-Free Family Game Night

A stress-free Family Game night can be thrown together in 5 very simple steps. Follow these and you will have a great time with family without added stress.

Reserve a Day

First, you need to take a day and set it aside for the family. If you can’t do a full day then pick at least one night. Tell all relations, neighbors, co-worker you won’t be disturbed this night.

If you want, you can even invite a few extended family members over. But it’s ok to keep it small if that is easier. Remember we are going for STRESS-FREE.

We were blessed to have my niece come play games with us on our family game night. It was fun to add a new player to the mix, but still it was a small affair and stress free.

Turn off Electronics

I’m not kidding, you don’t need the distraction. You need to unplug. Make this day all about having FUN with your family. You know, fun! That emotion of joyful rush you haven’t felt in a while.

And family…it’s those people who randomly pass through your house eating all your food, making demands on your time and laundry room, and claim to live there.  You need to reconnect and make some memories that are positive.

Gather the Games

Select table top games that the entire family can enjoy. Make them simple enough that the youngest member can participate. Yet not so childish that the older ones are bored.

Select a good number of games. Play one or two rounds of a game and then switch to another game another family member enjoys. This prevents people from getting bored and ensure each family member gets to play their favorite game.

To find amazing games your family might like, we love to watch Table Top on Youtube to see gameplay and styles.

Let them Eat!

No party is complete without food! But you have enough on your plate planning the holiday meals. Don’t go big. Go easy! Have easy snacks on hand.

Pop some popcorn you all can munch on while you play.

Then follow up with an amazing Ice Cream Cake from Baskin Robbins! Seriously, let them do the work for you!

Right now Baskin-Robbins offers two delicious holiday-themed desserts, perfect for any celebration this season, including the Ganache Poinsettia Cake and the Peppermint & Winter OREO®Cookies Polar Pizza.

The Ganache Poinsettia Cake, which is an elegant and decadent 9” round ice cream cake with the simple sophistication of a poinsettia topped with Winter OREO®Cookies.

You can choose the ice cream and cake flavor inside, so you can pick your favorites!

The Peppermint & Winter OREO® Cookies Polar Pizza, which features a double fudge brownie crust with Peppermint ice cream, topped with Winter OREO® Cookie Pieces and drizzled with marshmallow and fudge topping.

Both are heavenly and make an excellent ending dessert to a fun family day of games!

Both are also available for pre-order both in-store and online at www.baskinrobbins.com/onlineordering. You’ll just need to place your order 24 hours in advance before pickup.

While you are there, grab December’s ice cream Flavor of the Month – Peppermint Bark in the Dark. This delicious flavor combines crunchy peppermint bark with creamy Chocolate ice cream all wrapped together with a peppermint candy and white chocolate flavored ribbon.

Cuddle Up and Relax

The last part of a great family game night is cuddling up and relaxing at the end. After you are all played out of games, and you’ve enjoyed your treats. Curl up with everyone together and enjoy a family movie or TV show you all enjoy.

This gives you the sense of relaxing at the end of a fun day and helps you recharge before heading back into the world of responsibility when your family game night is complete.

But for now, just enjoy the time together with your family. Build these lasting memories you all can cherish.
