After the stupendous success of its previous conferences, Biogenesis Health Cluster, the leading Think Tank organization for health and medical research had organized two international conferences in Bengaluru this week. From the 23rd – 25th November, 2016, the J. N. Tata Auditorium at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru played host to the 4th International Conference on Healthy Ageing in the Changing World – 2016 with focus on ‘The Adolescence of Geriatrics- Present Scenario & Future Challenges’ and Drug Discovery Conference- 2016 focussed on ‘Strategies & Technologies Driving Drug Discovery to Market’. With the spotlight on getting together in one place the best minds in the practices, the conferences hosted more than 200 leading scientists, researchers, academicians, Pharmacologists, Clinicians, Medical Practitioners, Government Agencies and students from around the globe.

The 4th World Congress on Geriatrics & Gerontology- International Conference on Healthy Ageing in Changing World-2016, aimed to raise awareness about the speed of population ageing and, more generally, about the experience of being old in our changing world. The conference was held under the aegis of BioGenesis Health Cluster and Indo British Geriatrics Council (IBGC), organizations committed to advance geriatric wellness and care, nursing, and to supporting efforts focused on all levels of Geriatric education. “The conference brought to light the challenges and revolutions needed to help the elder population which is set to increase in India. As per the United Nations Population Division (UN 2011) projects, the share of India’s population above 60 yrs of age, is projected to increase from 8 percent in 2010 to 19 percent in 2050,” said Dr. V. P. Rao, Chairman, BioGenesis Health Cluster.

In this effort towards Healthy Ageing, Indo British Geriatrics Council also announced the partnership with Orange Block to design and develop Geriatric friendly Retirement Community Townships. The Plaque for the launch of the partnership was unveiled by Guest of Honor, Mr. Dominic McAllister, British Deputy High Commissioner, Dr. V. P. Rao and other eminent invitees. These townships would be launched first in Bangalore, followed by Hyderabad, Pune and Vizag. The IBGC announced Technical Collaborations (Geriatrics) to develop Geriatrics friendly specifications in construction. The project has also announced that Baptist Hospital would be the healthcare partners in the Bengaluru township. IBGC would also provide Nursing Training for the project and conduct exchange programs in collaboration with British Hospitals for training for key staff and nurses for the benefit of the geriatric community.

Speaking on the second conference, the World Congress on Drug Discovery & Development 2016, Mr. V P Rao, the Chairman of the BioGenesis Health Cluster, the key organizers of this conference added, “This conference provided extensive, comprehensive and recent information on latest methods on drug development. Not only did the participants have the opportunity to interact with top scientists working in the drug discovery field but also ensured deliberations during the conference benefitting one and all immensely.”

The Drug Discovery & Development-2016 conference brought together senior level experts to discuss recent developments in the industry and debate the best strategies and solutions to improve drug discovery going forward. Recent advances in basic and translational aspects of drug discovery were discussed along with highlights latest on the scientific breakthroughs, innovative technologies and approaches that can be used to overcome drug development challenges, and generate future opportunities for novel therapeutic discoveries.

Both the conferences included live workshops, interactive education sessions, B2B meetings, round-table discussions apart from the conventional plenary sessions, featured symposia, breakout sessions and oral presentation sessions for abstracts and challenging cases. The conferences covered every topic from global macro issues to strategies and tactical issues.
