The annual Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards launch is set to take place on Thursday the 14th of May at the British High Commissioner’s residence, Accra, Ghana. The launch is subsequent to a successful press launch which took place on the 30th of April 2015 in London, UK.
GUBA is an organisation that acknowledges and celebrates outstanding individuals within the British Ghanaian community. Currently in its fifth year, the GUBA awards is scheduled for Saturday the 4th of July 2015, at the London Hilton Metropole Hotel, 225 Edgware Road, London, W2 1JU.
The Ghana launch adheres to GUBA’s aim of solidifying the relationship within Ghana and its citizens in the diaspora. It aims to strengthen the relationship between the UK and Ghana and in turn, increase trade relations and development, an objective which British High Commissioner to Ghana and GUBA Advisory member HE John Benjamin reiterated:
“It is a huge honour and privilege to be able to represent the UK in Ghana. I look forward to working with GUBA and the diaspora in the UK whose diversity and dynamism demonstrates that the UK/Ghana relationship is about so much more than politics”, he added.
Speakers at the launch will include: The Minister for Tourism – Hon Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Former Minister for Information – Hon Fritz Baffour who will be speaking on the GUBA Fund and its utilization to renovate James Town. Founder and CEO of GUBA, Dentaa will also outline some of the ideas behind GUBA how we have survived in the last five years. Nominee recap and sponsorship address will also be given by Mr George Ameyaw- Head of PR, Marketing and Sponsorship for GUBA.
In celebration of 5 years of GUBA, only three categories are up for voting: Artist Extraordinaire Award, GUBA Humanitarian Award and GUBA Young and Talented Award. The Artist Extraordinaire Award is a new and competitive category incorporating artists from the UK and Ghana, who will be present at the awards. 14 black awards will also be given out on the night as an acknowledgement for excellence.
GUBA’s focus for the past 5 years has been centred on the exploration and acknowledgement of talent within the British Ghanaian community. The launch will serve as an extension of the ethos of GUBA and will be attended by a diverse range of dignitaries and personalities.
