Sarah Alhouti had her paper titled, “The Complex Web of Values: The Impact on Privacy Concerns and Purchase Behavior,” accepted by Journal of Electronic Commerce Research. The paper was co-authored by Catherine Johnson and Giles D’Souza.
Kirk Bozigian was invited to speak before the Providence College Chapter of ALPFA (Association for Latino Professionals for America) in November. The discussion involved opportunities for jobs in marketing, with an emphasis on brand management. His daughter, Courtney Bozigian (Hasbro Brand Manager) was also present to discuss her current career in marketing.
Kirk also participated in the recent Rhode Island Comic Con where he served as a moderator for fan panels with comic book artist Neal Adams and a panel on Transformers Toys, a brand he worked on developing while a brand manager at Hasbro.
Additionally, Kirk wrote the introduction and history to a newly published book on G. I. Joe – The Creation of an American Icon. The book will be available in early December. He also wrote the introduction to The Art of G.I. Joe: Volume 2, published in November.
Helen Caldwell was interviewed on NBC10 News on Dec. 2 to weigh in on the most recent holiday season shopping trends.
She was also recently invited to serve on the board for American Society Competitiveness.
Julia Camp, Carol Hartley & Patrick Kelly were awarded a research grant by the Rhode Island Research Collaborative for their paper, “Casino Gambling in Rhode Island-Challenges and Opportunities.” The Collaborative is a three-year-old program that sources faculty experts from Rhode Island to research and write on topics of legislative concern.
Mark DeFanti published a sole-authored paper titled “Using the American Marketing Association Integrated Marketing Plan Completion to Enhance Students’ Competitiveness” in Competition Forum.
Christine Earley presented her research paper, “The Effect of On-the-Job Training on the Perceived Ability of In Charge Auditors and Their Willingness to Train Others,” (co-authored with Noah Barsky) at an invited workshop at Lehigh University in September and at the AAA Northeast Regional Meeting in October. During the meeting, she also discussed a paper titled “Moral Reasoning, Distributional Inequity, and Honest Reporting.”
She also served as a moderator of a panel entitled, “SEC and PCAOB Developments on Audit Quality” at the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Global Board Leadership Summit, Audit Committee Forum in Washington, DC.
Additionally, Christine served as a panelist at the AAA 2015 Diversity Section Meeting, “Panel on Academic Fellowships,” in Atlanta, GA in November.
Sonia Gantman attended the International Symposium for Accounting Information Systems hosted by Dixon School of Accounting at the University of Central Florida.
She also presented a paper, co-authored by Jane Fedorowicz from Bentley University, titled “Communication and Control in Outsourced IS Development Projects: Mapping to COBIT Domains.”
Daniel Horne contributed to the recently published book, Responsible Management Education and the Challenge of Poverty, (Gudic, Parkes, and Rosenbloom). Dan’s chapter is titled “Financial Exclusion: Technology, the digital divide and poverty.”
Ann Kelley had her peer-reviewed teaching case on personal financial budgeting in Excel titled “Making Financial Literacy Relevant to Today’s Students” published in Cengage’s Accounting Instructor’s Report in November.
Patrick Kelly presented a paper titled, “The U.S. Federal Budget Project” at the Northeast Regional American Accounting Association Conference in October. This paper was co-authored with Cassandra Rohland of UMASS Lowell and received an award for “Best Education Paper” at the conference.
He was also featured on a Channel 12 News report that aired on Nov. 9, in which he commented on the nature of fantasy sports.
Michael Kraten had his article, “Social Presence Theory and Experiential Learning Games,” published in the December 2015 issue of the Business Education Innovation Journal.
He also joined and moderated a panel discussion called “Ethics, Socially Responsible Accounting Practices, and Sustainable Value” at the Northeast Regional Meeting of the American Accounting Association in October.
He made a presentation for the Providence College DWC Program during St. Dominic Weekend in October. It was called “Sustainability: Balancing Profits, People, and the Planet.”
Michael was appointed to the Research Advisory Group of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in London, England in September.
Additionally, he served as a contributing writer to Ampersand, the online publication of Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R), in October and November.
Marcin Krolikowski had a paper accepted for publication titled “Litigation Risk and Financial Leverage” in the Journal of Economics and Finance, along with James Malm.
He also presented a paper titled “Working Capital Mis(management) – Impact of CEO Age” at the Southern Finance Association (SFA) Annual Meeting in Captiva Island, Florida.
Brian Lamoureux presented a cyberbullying and technology workshop to parents at Saint Rose of Lima School in Warwick, RI on Nov. 18.
Alli Nathan was invited by the Friends of the Barrington Public Library to make a presentation on “Crowd Funding for Non Profit Organizations.”
She also presented work on “the Role of Financial Systems in the Development of Emerging Markets.” This was part of the IES’s Research Symposium on Emerging Markets.
Francine Newth presented research at the Global Strategy Journal Conference – Family Firms and Family Governed Multinationals in the Global Economy. Her presentation was titled “The Importance of a Business Model Agenda for the Global Strategic Growth of Family-Owned Firms.” The conference, sponsored by Bocconi University and Politecnico University di Milano, was held in Milan, Italy, on Nov. 20 & 21.
Pamela Sherer presented a paper titled “Tackling the Cite Your Sources Challenge — A Suggested Strategy,” at the 2015 Southern Management Association Meeting, in St. Pete’s Beach, FL, on Oct. 30.
