Well, as always if I dither about making a decision long enough, something forces my hand one way or the other. I've been mulling over a black powder revolver for a while now and a gentleman selling off some guns to the store today was the tipping point. I made one of those "I have this much in my wallet that isn't accounted for" cash-money-in-hand offers and he took it, so I guess I'm in the black powder game now.

I got this Pietta 1851 Colt Navy .36cal (engraved naval scene and all) in the original box but nothing else. It needs a little TLC, has some spots of rust on the frame under the hammer and the bore needs a good scrub, but mechanically it's sound as a pound and everything locks up nice and tight. I had forgotten how good these old school guns feel in the hand and how much I enjoy the crisp ticks of a single action. It points like a finger and just fits in a way most modern revolvers don't. I've had it apart and the nipples look almost new, chambers are cleanish and clear and there were no nasty corrosion spots lurking inside, so I lucked out.

I'll order some ball, patch, powder measure and such at work tomorrow and start hunting around for a good holster, but there is something that tells me this reproduction of a classic may follow me out into the wilds when the weather warms up a bit!

As always, advice, suggestions for good quality kit and tips from those with more experience are always welcome! At the price I got this for, I can afford to spend a little more on the accessories :)

The rest is my re-profiled Kabar I re-handled. From tactical butter knife to shaving sharp thanks to a good friend of mine and his magic touch! Of course this too needs new leather.......... My poor wallet!
