ArtFields announces a one-week deadline extension to Friday, November 20, 2015 for the ArtFields® 2016 competition, as well as the review panel members and competition judges.
A professional review panel will select approximately 400 final competition pieces. Panelists are:
Bradford R. Collins, PhD, Professor Art History, School of Visual and Design University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC
Stephanie Mayer Heydt, PhD, Margaret and Terry Stent Curator of American Art, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA
David Houston, Director, Bo Bartlett Center, College of the Arts, Columbus State University, Columbus, GA
For the final competition, a jury of curators, collectors and artists will judge all works:
Graham Boettcher is Chief Curator and The William Cary Hulsey Curator of American Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham, AL. He was previously a curatorial fellow at the Yale University Art Gallery, and has held research fellowships at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and the Terra Foundation Summer Residency in Giverny, France.
Stephanie Cash is the Editor of BURNAWAY – The Voice of Art in the South magazine in Atlanta, GA. She contributes to such publications as Art in America, Photograph, and Modern Painters, and has also worked as a free-lance writer and editor for ArtsATL.com, Rizzoli, and Prestel publishers.
Kimberly Light, Co-Founder and Partner of Connelly & Light Art Advising Firm, a full service art advisory, curatorial, collections management company based in LA and NYC.
Emily Smith, of Richmond, VA, is the Executive Director of 1708 Gallery; a non-profit gallery committed to providing opportunities for artistic innovation for emerging and established artists and to expanding the understanding and appreciation of new art for the public. Smith was the Curatorial Fellow in Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
Leslie Umberger is a curator and art historian of American art, specializing in the work of folk, self-taught, and vernacular artists. In 2012 she was appointed as inaugural Curator of Folk and Self-taught Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She is currently organizing a major retrospective for the Alabama artist Bill Traylor (1843-1949), which will open in the spring of 2018 in Washington, D.C.
The arts festival (April 22 through April 30, 2016) will award life-changing prizes of $50,000 for the Top Prize, $25,000 for Juried Panel prize and two $12,500 People’s Choice (one each for two- and three-dimensional work). A return of The Citizens Bank Merit Awards will be ten awards for $1,000 each. Artists 18 and over – who reside in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia - are encouraged to submit their work by 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2015 at http://www.artfieldssc.org/artists/how-it-works/
ArtFields competitions have delivered more than $335,000 in cash prizes for sculpture, paintings, installations and fiber art created by artists from several states. Established and emerging artists alike have been featured in the festival. A jury of visual art professionals will select approximately 400 competition pieces from all submissions.
The nine-day art competition transforms historic Lake City, more than tripling its population and creating a palpable buzz throughout dozens of venues. Many artists attend the festival, networking with peers, connecting with art patrons and enjoying the local hospitality.
