The journey began in July of 2001 when Moss Building & Design was founded by Pete Hampel and his son Jason Hampel.
The name MOSS has a special meaning, as ‘Moss’ was Pete’s father’s nickname. The nickname was given to Moss by his four children and it was derived from the fish “mossbunker” that was used as bait on family vacations.
While originally offering residential remodeling including, additions, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, and basement remodeling, in 2010 MOSS expanded their offering with the addition of Moss Home Services. Moss Home Services was created to meet the countless requests MOSS received for handyman services. Moss Home Services offers handyman, plumbing, electrical, roofing & siding, tile, and other home improvement services. Fourteen years later Moss Building & Design is now an award winning contractor in all of Northern Virginia. Throughout those 14 years MOSS’ commitment to customer care has remained constant. This year the remodeling company has won 7 consumer voted awards. These include The Angie’s List Super Service Award for five consecutive years. Additionally, they received the Design and Service Award from Houzz, and they were voted Best Kitchen Remodeler and Best Handyman by the readers of Northern Virginia Magazine. They were also recently entrusted by Hoda Kotb of the TODAY Show to remodel her mom's kitchen. MOSS completed this remodel in just 7 days in time for a Mother's Day surprise.
“When you look back and see where we started in 2001, it has really been an amazing journey. We are so proud of what we have accomplished and I know my father ‘Moss’ would be as well,” said Owner and CFO, Pete Hampel.
MOSS is a favorite in the Northern Virginia community. Not only are they voted the best by the Northern VA community, but MOSS also gives back to the community in which they serve. In 2011 MOSS founded their popular, HandyMOM 101 workshop. This is one of the ways MOSS empowers the community by teaching them their own DIY skills so they can complete some of their home improvements that don’t necessarily require a contractor.
It has been 14 great years and counting for the Northern Virginia remodeling company, and it doesn’t look like they will be slowing down.
