Federal Member for Watson, Tony Burke, is encouraging local community groups to pitch their ideas for grants under the second round of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development’s Stronger Communities Grants Programme.
Mr Burke said grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 are now open to local not-for-profit community groups under the new 2016-2017 round, for small capital projects that can provide matching contributions, in cash or in kind (on at least a dollar for dollar basis).
Up to $150,000 of funding will again be available across our local area for small capital projects which improve community participation and contribute to the vibrancy and viability of local communities.
The Watson Community Advisory Committee will continue in its task to recommend projects that represent the best investment for our community.
“I’m interested in the best ideas in our community for how this funding is spent so I’m keen to hear from as many local community groups as possible about how they might spend this funding,” Mr Burke said.
“This funding should be spent on the brightest ideas that represent the best value for money.
“I would encourage locals and community groups who have identified projects which might qualify to submit their ideas to the Community Advisory Community.”

Local community groups have until 25 March 2016 to send in their applications, after which successful proposals identified by the Community Advisory Committee will be invited to submit a full application to the Department for final approval.
