Come get registered to vote and hear from Dallas County elected officials at our Voter Registration Block Party/Rally. This event is free! We’ll have free food, drinks, and prizes, as well as live entertainment from three up-and-coming rappers.
Join us on Saturday, January 9, from 1 to 4 PM, in Oak Cliff. The location is the Texas Theatre/Bank of Texas parking lot, at 400 S. Madison St., Dallas 75208.

Executive Committee Meeting Next Monday, January 11.
Precinct Chairs — Your Current Term Ends Monday, June 13.
This date is prescribed by law [Sec. 171.022(c)] for twenty days after the date set for the 2016 Primary Runoff (May 24). Even if you did not file in the Primary for another term, you still serve until June 13.
DO NOT STOP ATTENDING MEETINGS IF YOU DID NOT FILE AGAIN — YOU ARE STILL IN OFFICE UNLESS YOU RESIGN.
If you meant to file but missed the deadline (don’t feel alone — there are always a few who do), you are still a Precinct Chair until then. And if no one else filed in the Primary for your spot, then on June 13 your Precinct Chair position will become vacant, and the County Executive Committee meeting held that day can elect you to serve again for the next two-year term.
The DCDP does not remove Precinct Chairs from office because of their failure to file for another term; they serve out their current one until June 13. In fact, the DCDP has never removed any Precinct Chair from office for any reason except death or resignation. [We could also remove a Precinct Chair for openly supporting a Republican against a Democrat in a partisan election, but thankfully that hasn’t been an issue for several decades.]
The Texas Democratic Party did change their rules a few years back to allow county parties to remove Precinct Chairs for not attending Executive Committee meetings, but Dallas County has never done this. You are an elected official, and we hope you will attend our Executive Committee meetings, but if you miss them and the voters in your precinct re-elect you anyway that is their choice. Anyone who claims that the DCDP has ever removed a Precinct Chair for non-attendance is flatly wrong.
That said, please DO attend the next DCDP Executive Committee meeting on Monday, January 11, at 6:30 PM, at the usual place, the CWA Union Hall at 1408 N. Washington at Bryan, Dallas.
At this January meeting in even-numbered years, the Precinct Chairs from each Senate District will caucus and choose a Temporary Chair (or Temporary Co-Chairs) for each Senate District Convention. Those District Conventions will be held this year on Saturday, March 19. The Temporary Chair or Co-Chairs will locate and confirm locations for those Conventions and make arrangements for them. Choosing these persons is one of the most important things which Precinct Chairs do in their terms of office.

On Monday, January 18, the Dallas County Democratic Party will take part in the Dallas MLK Parade, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM.

Jacqueline Jones is our new second Deputy Primary Elections Coordinator. She is a retired IT professional with 20+ years in the Health and Telecom industries. A native Texan, born and raised in Dallas, she is an alumnus of S.O.C., S.M.U. and E.T.S.U. She is committed to supporting the democrats in our area in achieving their goals. As a retiree she is involved in her South Dallas community and various organizations. If you are not part of the process in solving our problems, you are part of the problem and have no say in the outcome.
Become A Deputy Voter Registrar
“Volunteer Deputy Registrars are entrusted with the responsibility of officially registering voters in the State of Texas. They are appointed by county voter registrars and charged with helping increase voter registration in the state. Acceptance of the duties of volunteer deputy registrar places you in a position of trust and responsibility to the citizens you will register to vote.”

The Elections Department will holding trainings for Volunteer Deputy Registrars through the year, starting January 3. These are from 11 AM to Noon on Saturdays, and from 7 to 8 PM on Thursdays. January Club of the Month: Far North Dallas Richardson Democrats
The Far North Dallas Richardson Democrats are political activists who live in the North Dallas county, Richardson, and Collin county area.
FNDD meet the third Thursday of every month from 6:00-8:30 PM at Blue Mesa Grill in Addison. This month, they’re hosting their annual Donkey Show on January 20 and a 2016 Democratic Primary Forum on January 31.

Dallas County Democratic Party Executive Committee Meeting —
The DCDP Executive Committee will meet for the first quarter of 2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, at the usual place, the CWA Union Hall, at 1408 N. Washington at Bryan, Dallas. The main business will be caucuses of Precinct Chairs by Senatorial Districts to choose temporary chairs for their District Conventions (which will be on March 19 this year). We will also fill Precinct Chair vacancies and hear reports. The Executive Committee consists of the County Chair Carol Donovan, County Secretary Gary Garcia, and all of the county’s Precinct Chairs. Other Democrats are free to attend, but not to vote. Parking is usually limited.
Metrocrest Democrats — Metrocrest Democrats is sponsoring a Candidate forum for Democrats in contested primaries in our geographic area [Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Farmers Branch and Valley Ranch] and in county-wide races. The forum will be held at our meeting January 11. At our following meeting on February 8 members of the club will vote to endorse specific candidates.
