The former Longhorn standout will now have to outlast some young talent at his position
The Houston Rockets released its 18-man training camp roster Friday and former Texas Longhorns star point guard Isaiah Taylor was among those that will be competing to make the final 15-man roster.
Taylor was with the Rockets for the Las Vegas Summer League, where he added 27 points, 18 assists and two steals in five games, while looking even more impressive in confidently orchestrating the offense and defending aggressively.

In hopes of the surviving training camp cuts, Taylor’s competition for Houston’s third-string point guard duties will be Gary Payton II, the former Oregon State star and respective rookie, newly acquired backup point guard Tyler Ennis, who has seen time with three NBA teams in two seasons, and former Cal State Fullerton standout Bobby Brown, who spent two seasons in the NBA from 2008 to 2010.
If Taylor ultimately doesn’t make the final cuts and isn’t picked up by another team, it’s quite possible he spends next season on the Rockets’ D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, if he doesn’t head overseas to play professionally.
As a junior at Texas, Taylor was named an All-Big 12 First Team talent after averaging 15 points and five assists.
