Keukenhof, also known by some as 'The Garden Of Europe', is a wonderful flower garden situated in Holland, which originally started it's life as a castle. It displays 32 hectares of flowers and acts as a showcase for Dutch floriculture, with many participating companies displaying their bulbs, cut flowers and plants. As well as this it is an absolutely beautiful place to visit with the family where you can take in all the sights and smells of flowers that Holland has to offer, which includes a stunning Tulip exhibition. Our product designer, Aga had the opportunity to visit here a few years ago and she came back full of inspiration! The park is only open until 17th May so it would be perfect if you are looking for a last minute trip to somwehere cultural and breathtaking whilst the weather is so good. Here are 5 reasons to visit Keukenhof this May:
Inspiration from Van Gogh
2015 marks 25 years since the death of the famous and talented artist Vincent Van Gogh, so the park has taken inspiration from his paintings and self portraits to create a 'selfie garden' as well as a mosaic self-portrait of Van Gogh himself, made out of Tulips.
A choice of fabulous gardens to visit
From the Herb Garden full of delightful scents and experiences, to the historical garden which tells the story of Tulips - and not to mention the works of art which are displayed amongst the flower gardens- there is something different to see in every turn!
Fun ways to get around
Why walk around the park when you can pay to take a trip in an aeroplane over the breathtaking scenery? You could also enjoy the flower displays whilst riding through the canals in an electronically-propelled whisper boat.
Shanty Choirs
If you visit between 14th and 17th May then you will be able to experience performances from the Dutch Sea Shanty Choirs - this sounds like it could be a lot of fun!
A great family day out
There are plenty of fun things to keep the kids happy on a day out to Keukenhof, meaning that all the family can be entertained on a day out here. A fun treasure hunt, a petting farm and a maze are perfect for the kids, and the adults too if you want to embrace your inner child!
So, if you have been inspired by this post and want to pay a visit to this spectular garden this May, take a look at www.skyscanner.com to find some cheap flights. The Keukenhof website gives examples of nice places to stay in nearby Amsterdam, from where daily bus excursions to the park take place.
If you are now dreaming of Keukenhof but are unable to make a trip there this year, then why not treat yourself to a nice bunch of Spring Tulips instead, and bring the beauty of Keukenhof in to your own home?
