Registration is now open for the Central Termin8er Bike Race and Festival. This all encompassing event takes place from June 3 to June 5, and includes a wide variety of interactive programming including a ‘Propulsion’ Art Part, a bike race around the Central Terminal, bike handling skills competition, racing and rodeo for kids, a Vendor Village, and a Gobike Buffalo sponsored Safety and Mechanical Clinics. The Central Terminal is the perfect spot for just such a race and festival, as there is no immediate car traffic. There’s plenty of room on the grounds for cyclists to do their thing, and the main concourse of the terminal is ideally set up for art and fashion shows, and DJ music.

Organizers of the Central Termin8er Bike Race and Festival believe that these types of community building events are needed to draw neighborhoods together. Through cycling, participants get to enjoy the great outdoors while participating in healthy activities. Supporters of the initiative include the following Fillmore Forward Partners:

Broadway Area Business Association, Broadway Market, Broadway-Fillmore Neighborhood Housing Services. Buffalo Central Terminal, Buffalo First, Buffalo Niagara Association of Realtors, Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, CAO Masten Resource Center, Daemen College: Center for Sustainable Communities & Civic Engagement, John R. Oishei Foundation, Martin Luther King Jr. CDC, Matt Urban Center, MLK Business District Association, National Trust Preservation Green Lab, South Fillmore Block Club, SRG Buffalo, UB School of Architecture & Planning, Wilson Street Urban Farm, and City Council Member David Franczyk.

The event is a celebration of diversity, community, art, fashion, health, culture and bikes. The Central Terminal is being used as a symbolic image and a rallying cry for a city to unite as one. The common denominator is the bike – a vehicle that has the ability to bridge gaps and open doors. The Central Termin8er pays tribute to the history of urban racing in Buffalo, current progressive cycling efforts such as Complete Streets, and the future of this city as one of the bike friendliest environments in the land.

The Central Termin8er Bike Race incorporates a number of different forms of biking including road, mountain and cyclocross. There are also plenty of kids bike activities (ages 17+). Other events and activities include:

Propulsion Art Party
