Britannica International School, Budapest was founded in 1994 and is the longest established British School in Hungary. The school is located in the prestigious District XII in the Buda Hills with an easy access to the city centre. It has a diverse student population of 340, with more than 40 nationalities between the ages of 5-18.
Leadership
The Principal of the school is the experienced Mr Richard Vaughan who has taught in various UK schools in Birmingham, Solihull and Staffordshire and also led two schools in Wirral. Mr Vaughan joined the school following a successful leadership position in the British International School, Vietnam.
The school is part of the Orbital Education group which is headquartered near Manchester in the UK. Orbital Education has schools in Hungary, Spain, Russia and China.
Facilities
Two Science laboratories, modern ICT suite, Library with a Media Centre, spacious Music Room, Art room, sixth-form study rooms, 250-seated Auditorium with modern sound and lighting technical equipment that hosts public events and student performances. Sports facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, a football pitch and a tennis court. All classrooms are bright and airy – well-resourced and fitted with computers, projector/interactive whiteboard.
Curriculum
The school delivers an enhanced version of the English National Curriculum. The school is a registered Cambridge International Examinations Centre, students take IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations at the age of 16 and they take Cambridge International AS and A2 (A Level) Examinations in their final two years.
Throughout the sixth form (Years 12 & 13), students are supported and advised on their applications to universities by a fully qualified Careers Adviser.
Extra Curricular Activities
A wide range of extracurricular activities bring lots of colour to school life. After school clubs include swimming, football, basketball, chess, cricket, rugby, floorball, judo, aikido, ballet, drama, arts & crafts, instrumental lessons, choir, tennis, pottery, railway modelling club etc – all the after-school activities are held on the school premises.
