Pop the champagne, put on Bing Crosby, crack open the Quality Street! We’re into December and that the Christmas switch has been well and truly flicked in the Muddy house.

This year I let the bratlets decorate their own tree. OK, that’s not true. I let them choose the decorations for their own tree and then I made it look pretty (don’t judge me,  my Christmas needs to look pretty!). I’d taken the kids down to Henley for the day last weekend (went to the River & Rowing Museum to check out the cool Eduardo Paolozzi exhibition there) so we found ourselves in town afterwards.

I popped my head around the door of Vinegar Hill, and that was a mistake – the kids saw the children’s Christmas tree decorations at the front of the store and made a run for it . But hey-ho, all’s well that ends well because I ended up buying all my decorations in one fell swoop, a Muddy first. And here’s the result!

The kids tree and sack during the day – I LOVE the Merry Christmas sign you can just about see at the top

The main tree (not an unwrapped present to the side, it’s my new computer!)

There’s so much gorgeous stuff in the store but I particularly loved the pom pom garlands for the trees and the pretty silver Christmas lights. The kids adored the Santa sacks too and the peacock that we put on the top of the tree (our usual fairy having bitten the dust this year).

The mini pom pom garlands are only £9.99, Santa hessian sack is £10.99 while the decorations start at a couple of quid upwards so it’s not break the bank stuff. I do confess to the £99.99 (whisper it) fake tree from Haddenham Garden Centre but I consider it an investment!

Right, I’m now going to get half cut and burn the meat, just so I really know I’m on the countdown to Christmas. 24 days and counting!
