Get your hands on one of a kind coupon discounts with this year’s Entertainment Book, including 5% off Emirates flights. Great news for fellow bargain hunters, as finding this level of discount on Emirates tickets outside of their own sales is usually hard to come by. Also, the collection of other vouchers featured in this book (covering all areas such as travel, retail, leisure, dining, etc.), will potentially save you hundreds of dollars on your shopping during the course of the year too.

Unique savings

Although you have to pay for this book, becoming a member is definitely worth it. The most intriguing vouchers on the list are without a doubt the ones giving you unique discounts which you cannot get any other way. For example what caught my interest is the latest Emirates promo code, giving you 5% discount on flights to Europe.

To redeem this offer, you’ll have to apply the promo code when booking, then show your Entertainment membership card at check-in to validate the discount. 5% off Emirates flights isn’t easy to come by, the most you would generally get out of an Emirates promotion is around 1-2% off, mainly via cash-back offers. I know some of you might think that you can get these savings using your frequent flyer points (aka. Emirates Skywards points), but in this case you do not need to fly thousand of miles (costing you thousand of dollars). I’d also like to point out that 5% off a round-trip ticket to Europe from a high-end airline such as Emirates should easily save you more than enough to cover your annual Entertainment membership. In this instance, you’re basically getting all remaining coupons at zero cost.

Selection of coupons

In this year’s edition, there are also several new additions of participating partners. Sticking to the travel department, one of the biggest ones is Virgin airlines who are offering a $50 voucher for registering your membership plus a blanket 5% off on gift cards. In addition, using the gift card to book your flight is an easy way to minimise or remove any annoying booking fees.

Just to mention a few well known names, the rest of the participating entities include hotels (Rydges, Mantra, Crown Towers), car rental companies (Avis, Europcar), local restaurants & fast food chains (Subway, McDonalds), department stores (Big W, Woolworths), fashion and other retailers (Adairs, Fresh Fragrances and Cosmetics, Wheel&Barrow, Cellarmasters), magazine subscriptions (Magshop, Subscribe Today), florists (Teleflora, Edible Blooms),  jewellers (Amante), leisure centres (Australia Zoo, Dreamworld, Seaworld, Hoyts Cinemas), and the list goes on.

Prices

The new edition of the Entertainment Book for the year 2014 – 2015 is being released in all states over these coming days. Both hard copies and the app version of the new Entertainment Book are sold by independent distributors (here is an example), if you don’t know anyone who sells them just do a quick google search and you’ll find plenty of representatives online. Alternatively, you could ask for one at your local school or charity organisation. Each state has it’s own copy, with prices ranging from $55 to $70 depending on the area in which you live. There will be one big Sydney Edition this year, including all vouchers covering both Sydney and Sydney North for $70.

Hard copy or digital version?

This year a digital version of the book is available as well, which you can use from your smartphone or tablet. It’s pretty handy as you’ll be able to use your phone to redeem the discounts without having to carry around your printed copy. On the other hand, you won’t have the possibility to swap vouchers with fellow members. The trading of unwanted vouchers has become very popular amongst members, as it provides a method of giving away the vouchers which you never use in return for more of the ones that you do. Different preferences and personal circumstances between members means that there’s generally always someone willing to swap with you. On this basis, in my opinion, having this option makes the hard copy of the book better value.
