2016-10-13

This one is dedicated to all of the moms, and mom fans out there. Put on some TuPac, call the best mom you know, and head out for a weekend that is full of options to show your appreciation. If mom’s not up for the adventure or is too far away to participate, get out there and show her that she created a human with a real talent for finding a good time. Here are your options:

Friday, October 14th

FESTIVAL

We know tickets are steep, but we’d be omitting crucial information about your weekend possibilities if we didn’t include the BUE Festival in our list. Taking over Tecnópolis, the epic music festival will fill three different stages with a pantheon of bands to check off of your bucket list. Where else can you experience Iggy Pop, The Flaming Lips, and Bomba Estéreo in the same weekend? Pore over the list of attendees here, and get ready to brave the crowds for a worthwhile music extravaganza. Tickets start at AR $1100 and you can (and should) get them in advance here.

Tecnópolis | Av. de los Constituyentes | 6:30 PM – 3:00 AM

ART

There’s nothing like a collection of nude paintings to solicit attention. Desnudos – Muestra Colectiva de Pintura will be bearing all at the Espacio Cabrera, and taking you through contemporary versions of the aesthetic interpretation of the human body. Twelve different artists have come together under this naked umbrella, and their works will be accompanied by DJ Nacho Diaz’s musical stylings. You can browse the profiles of the painters here before heading to Cabrera to witness how they feel about bodies. The event is free to attend as long as you register here beforehand.

Espacio Cabrera | Cabrera 3641 | 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

NATURE

Take advantage of Friday’s full moon with a guided visit through the Vicente Lopez wildlife sanctuary by its light. The municipality, in conjunction with Arbol del Sur, is hosting this after-hours walking tour to seek out the critters that only come out at night. All you need to bring for your moonlight exploration are comfortable shoes and a coat, in case the weather turns on you. The tour is free, but make sure you register to attend here and show up on time!

Reserva Ecológica Vicente López | Paraná and Eduardo Ramseyer| 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM

MUSIC

We promise we’re not trying to empty your wallet on purpose, but we would seriously be at fault if we failed to mention that the former frontman of Skid Row, Sebastian Bach, will be playing a live show right here at the Teatro Flores. Heavy metal fans and Gilmore Girls fans unite! The hard-core rocker will be lighting up the stage with a setlist of his greatest hits, and tracks from his latest album Give ‘Em Hell. Come check out the talent who is likely the only guy in the world who can go from singing metal, to guest starring on SpongeBob. Tickets will run you AR $800 and you can get yours here.

Teatro Flores | Av. Rivadavia 7806 | 7:00 PM

THEATER

Looking for a heavy dose of comedy and locally grown sass? Local director Julián Arenas’ witty gay themed
sass-fest
play Cruising Reloaded is having its last showing at Teatro Porteño. A true break from the more formulaic gay theater in this town, Cruising has wit, heart and more than its fair share of dreamy looking actors. AR $200 online or at the door.

Teatro Porteño | Av. Corrientes 1660 | 11:00 PM

MUSIC

Matienzo also wants to make a bid for your musical attention with a Los Mutantes del Parana and Churupaca double bill. The two folksy, experimental groups will be headlining the cultural center’s Friday night party, and it’ll only cost you AR $110 to secure your spot in the audience. Marking the release of their latest albums, the bands promise to “take you on an auditory journey,” and “unite different musical universes.” The show itself starts at 11:45 PM, but the center opens its doors earlier so you can take advantage of their artsy vibe and enjoy a pre-concert treat at their bar.

Club Cultural Matienzo | Pringles 1249 | 11:45 PM – 2:45 AM

TALENT

Although there’s no promise of the schadenfreude style entertainment from a Simon Cowell-like judge, BAIS Got Talent will definitely be a show worth attending. If you’re dying to get your talent out there for the world to see, there may still be time: shoot an email to baisgottalent@gmail.com with a description of your talent and any relevant photos or videos to sign up. If you’re more comfortable on the side of the entertained, register here for a free night of talent judging fun. The top prize for participants will be a free trip on BAIS’s dime, so come try your luck or cheer on your favorites.

Casa BAIS | Ayacucho 1571 | 8:00 PM – 11:30 PM

SALSA

Experiencing cumbia and tango fatigue? Buenos Aires se viste de Salsa is here to turn your attention to salsa’s party potential. Head to La Quince Espacio for a night of the seductive genre, whose origins actually trace back to New York City. There will be two live orchestras to accompany your evening, and DJ Charlie el Malo de Caracas will be picking up the slack once they’re done playing. With a name like that, how can you not entrust him with your dance moves? Tickets are AR $70 until 1:00 AM, AR $100 afterwards, and can be purchased at the door.

La Quince Espacio Cultural | Av. Corrientes 5426 | 11:30 PM – 5:00 AM

PARTY

Mostrafest is feeling the Halloweeny, full moon vibe, and bringing you a “dress code darks,” evening. Don’t miss this chance to wear your choicest black pieces at once, and lay the eyeliner on thick. Live guest Leevon Kennedy will round out the night’s theme, bringing her self-proclaimed clairvoyant talent to the mix. Keep it spooky with go-go dancers galore, four DJs, and an open bar until 2:00 AM. Tickets are AR $100 and you can get them in advance here.

To the races! Dust off your fancy hat and your binoculars, because you’re excuses to not experience a race at the Hipódromo are no longer valid. Bais is assembling a crew to accompany you on your derby themed adventure, and your afternoon of excitement is totally free (barring impromptu decisions to bet on a horse). No need to sign up, just show up at the meeting point to solidify your fancy status, and be a small part of the history of a venue that’s been around since 1876.

Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo | Av del Libertador 4101 | 3:00 PM

We know we had you spending all your hard earned money on Friday night, so we’re here with the Centro Cultural Carlos Gardel to make it up to you. They’re hosting a free Mega Encuentro de la Música de Brasil, which is sure to make you wish you got to spend more time in our northerly neighboring country. With all of the madness that is going on in the world lately, sometimes laughter is the only medicine. Make it a priority with Clap! Stand Up at the Cavern Club. They’re bringing you the comedy duo, Ricardo Bisigniano and Diego Sacco to take your mind off of anything and everything that isn’t hilarity. The club has plenty of food, and alcoholic beverages in case they’re brand of funny doesn’t coincide with yours. BAR

For your evening libations, check out one of Palermo’s hippest bars, Congo, for their “Gala” themed evening. Gala, you say? Well, sort of. The bar is rolling out the red carpet for singer and actress, Sofía Gala, who will be headlining the evening. The combination of good grub, fun drinks, and Gala’s dulcet tones is the perfect beginning (or end if you’re feeling a bit geriatric) to a Saturday night on the town. There’s no cover charge and food and drink prices vary.

Apparently here to unite multiple, disparate themes, Monstercon promises to be a festival of rock, pop, comics, tv, urban art, tattoos, literature, and video games. What will they all have in common? Monsters, we assume. Sunday’s schedule is as diverse as the theme of the expo, so there will be something for everyone! MUSIC

Sometimes the Argentine music scene is a little bit lacking in the Funk and Soul departments, but Roman and the Livin’ Soul Project are here to change that. They’ll be putting on a back to back show at La Usina del Arte to bring back the funk. For a quick taste, here’s Livin’ Soul doing their very best Stevie Wonder, and if you’ve got time to kill, here is Roman’s full album for your listening pleasure. The concert is totally free, but tickets are limited to two per person.
