With close ties to Royal Racing, Seven iDP has turned the bicycle protection world upside down with their latest offerings for riders looking at the best protection available. With names such as Steve Peat, Mark Weir, Kurt Sorge, Garett Buehler, Chris Ackrigg and Neil Donoghue wearing Seven iDP, you know this bicycle protection is good. We take a look at the levels of protection that Seven iDP offers for MTB riders.

Flex Series:

New for 2015 the Flex knee guard offers excellent value for money. It features most of the innovation but at a lower price. Competitive pricing make this a go to pad for any rider looking at quality protection. Centered Adjustment Strap is exclusive to Seven iDP and allows the fit of the pads to be adjusted on both the interior and exterior sides of the pad. This gives the rider a truly tailored custom fit ensuring the pads are secure and comfortable. This also eliminates the need for any excessively long straps. Ergonomically placed side impact pads move with you to keep you protected at all times.  Venting in these pads helps keep you cool.  Strategic placement protects the right areas without binding while pedaling. Exclusive to Seven iDP the polygon neoprene is a combination of latticed neoprene sandwiched between an outer layer of abrasion resistant 4 way stretch fabric and a soft, comfortable, moisture wicking and quick drying anti-bacterial inner fabric.Through extensive testing Seven iDP identified the upper calf on the leg and the upper forearm on the arm as key areas to locate supporting straps to prevent body armor slipping during riding.
Tactic Series:

Where the new Seven Tactic Knee pads differ to more traditional protection is in the use of the BOA closure system. Although we’ve seen this used on other knee pads in the bicycle world, Seven iDP has really refined the strap and dial placement to help ensure a great fit. The BOA system uses an intricate cable system that is pulled tight via the small index wheel, which sits just off center on the inner side of the pad. Seven iDP have also shrouded the dial with a plastic surround which should help short legs slide over the dial without snagging. An upper strap that sits on the lower thigh is paired with a lower strap that wraps up and over the calf muscle to help prevent slippage. Both of these can be adjusted accurately and simultaneously by the indexed Boa dial when on the move to ensure the best fit possible.

With a hard outer shell that sits over the knee itself and the smooth slick finish that helps the pad slide on impact, the Tactic pads protect the rider with minimal intrusion. The designers at Seven iDP also has made the Tactic knee pads pedal friendly with a narrow profile with plenty of lateral support.

Control Series:

If you are a rider that is looking for a more minimalist design, the Control series is that pad for you. Featuring just one adjustable velcro strap and a secondary elastic strap to keep them in position, the Control keeps it’s protective nature while being pedal friendly. The protective curve knee cap as used in the Tactic is used on the Control Knee pad too along with similar perforated foam and deep channeling to help improve air flow.

The Control series also has an upper body armor for riders looking at upper body protection from the elements. It boast features such as adjustable shoulder pads along with removable back and chest pads to allow better integration with neck braces. To ensure movement is unimpeded, the back protector has been made as flexible as possible. The Control Suit uses Seven’s custom perforated foam which helps to increase air flow and reduces overall weight.

Transition Series:

The Transition pads from Seven iDP provides riders great protection in a light weight and slip-on pad. This is the pad for you if you are looking for the most minimalist design while still providing protection. A modular formed insert made from high energy absorption vented memory foam that actually mold themselves to the rider’s body during use. Built using Aramid Fabric which is the toughest man-made fibers available and is woven to create an ultra light flexible fabric with outstanding anti-abrasion properties. The Transition series ensures freedom of movement and maximum protection at all times.

There is also two levels of base suits in the Transition series for riders needing extra upper body protection. A short sleeve or a long sleeve base suit offers excellent dexterity, light weight, airflow and of course protection due to the extensive use of Curv®, a base of Poly/Spandex and 4 way stretch mesh and extensive use of our proprietary foams.
