Well, well, well… that doesn’t happen very often. Last week, we here at browsergamez.com reported that Wargaming was going to revive the iconic Master of Orion franchise by releasing a brand new game based on the series. The studio will act as publisher of the game that is currently being developed by NGD Studios. A week later, in light of the E3, new information has surfaced concerning the upcoming science-fiction game. What comes as a big surprise to us is that Master of Orion will actually NOT be free-to-play. The studio that has specialized on free online games in the past few years is putting a price on the strategy game.

According to Wargaming’s Senior Communication Coordinator, the upcoming game will be available via Steam or other online shops. Whoever ends up purchasing Master of Orion will be able to enjoy the entire game, without any restrictions. This means that there will be no microtransactions whatsoever in Master of Orion. In other news, the sci-fi game is going to be a reboot for PC and not a sequel of the series. The ten iconic races from the original release will be back on board and spaceships can be built from scratch.

Wargaming has not yet announced when Master of Orion will launch.

We here at browsergamez.com have repeatedly explained how contested the MOBA genre is. Many players wouldn’t even be able to think of any more titles than League of Legends, Smite, Heroes of the Storm, and Dota 2. Dawngate and Infinite Crisis are two contenders who have just recently bitten the dust because they failed to attract players. The genre simply doesn’t offer a lot of room for variety, and the respective communities never feel motivated to leave their familiar game and learn slightly different mechanics in a new game. Why would they? Valve might give some players a reason to switch to Dota 2 in the future. While the studio has never been quite as fast as League of Legends or Smite in offering up new content, their updates have usually been all the more extensive. Now, the studio that has also created Halflife 2 is going even one step further.

With Dota 2 Reborn, the developer is bringing a massive facelift to their MOBA and also offering up new gameplay mechanics and features that have the potential to change everything. The studio has been working on their so called Source 2 Engine for a while now, which will also be the basis for Halflife 3. The engine is finally being put to the test in Dota 2. Since last week, any player can join beta testing of Dota 2 Reborn by downloading the client and selecting the respective mode in the menu.

Players will immediately realize that from the dashboard to the friends-lists and hero selection everything relating to the UI has been completely overhauled. Naturally, this facelift might not suffice to lure new players to Dota 2, but it’s also not everything that is new in the “reborn” version of the game. The game-changing feature is going to be the Custom Games mode. Here, players can find game modes that are based on Dota 2 but have been created by the community. These can range from singleplayer adventures to new multiplayer modes or something that the developers themselves can’t even think of yet. This editor reflects exactly how Dota, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike have originated. It will most likely bring brand new aspects to the MOBA genre, and might even revolutionize the way that the gaming community thinks of Dota 2.

We will keep you posted!
